A banker just make a joke about not blowing up fingers as I was leaving and once again I had forgotten about the upcoming fireworks-related holiday and once again thought okay, oddly specific but thanks?

and then I remembered @izzygnosis.bsky.social

If you want me to accept that LLMs are a general use technology — an unavoidable one at that — you will have to give up your expertise domain when people talk about it colloquially.

Stepping in here to defend Ann’s statement, which I’ve now seen framed this way by several technologists.

Ann is an author.

Her context is about usability, not technical capacity. On the merits of her context, she is correct.

Technical specificity does not change her conclusions.
This is one of the most-shared posts on Bluesky in the past day and it's just completely false. You might think ChatGPT is a *bad* search engine, or prefer another search engine. But it has had integrated web search since last year.

I personally think anyone whose gender ain't cis is welcome under the trans umbrella (if they WANT to identify as such) but you absolutely must be aware that folks who socially transition and/or medically transition face MANY more challenges and different experiences and respect that.

This, precisely, is what I think Dem voters want from their representatives: direct confrontation with people who are used to bullying others both as a matter of substance and style. You don't have to back down to these fucking clowns.
Texas Republican Keithself storms out of the meeting he's supposed to be running because a Democrat asked him to treat his colleague Sarah McBride with respect. These people would not last one day as a trans person.

one thing i keep thinking about is how there is simply no way to design a constitutional system that can resist authoritarian incursion if participants in that system do not actually care that much

Everyone needs to keep this in mind. Canada has a terrible history that it can't forget.

Wave your flag but remember whose land you're on and the obligations of that. And remember that immigrants make everything about this country better.
This resurgence of Canadian hyper-nationalism/patriotism as a response to tariffs is unsettling to witness, especially in Canada - a country with a white chauvinist underbelly rearing to reassert itself. It’s very likely that it will continue to be wielded against Indigenous nations and immigrants.

The experts, lawyers, and scholars who I’ve been speaking with since last night agree with me that it’s a coup and that this a 5-alarm fire.
This language describes a coup. You have to be a government employee, subject to the rules & procedures that bind gov employees, to do this kind of work. This is a blatant abuse of the public trust by the Trump administration, a true 5-alarm fire. www.wired.com/story/elon-m...
