Rebuilding trust

I love when they say this type of thing

They acknowledge that the trust is gone

How long has it been gone for a day or 10 years?
Portlanders: let your councilors know what you need to hear and understand during this oversight process. Because at the end of the day, this is about rebuilding public trust.

Trump's ICE has no place in Oregon. The use of tear gas against families, children, and peaceful demonstrators yesterday is a horrific abuse of authority that undermines public safety and violates constitutional rights. Federal agents must stand down and be held accountable.
Anti-ICE protest draws massive crowd at South Portland facility, feds deploy tear gas
Thousands of demonstrators who marched to the ICE building were met with pepper balls and tear gas within minutes of their arrival.

Sometimes the bravest thing you can do is stay soft in a world that keeps asking you to harden up.

Pay attention to what steadies you — a quiet moment, a voice, a song — and keep those things close. They ain’t escapes; they’re anchors.

I appreciate those out there protesting at great risk to their lives however i think the nation needs to grind this economy to a dead stop.
It's something everyone can do safely. No spending on ANYTHING but absolute necessities.
I understand some shut ins can not do this but very many of us can.

Mr. Rogers would be here now… So I'm here.
"They say they're coming to save us from some evil? They're talking about our neighbors who take care of us ... Alex was murdered while he was helping. Mr Rogers said look for the helpers, & right now the helpers have a target on our forehead ... Mr Rogers would be here right now too, so I'm here."

Asked this of journalist, but open to other opinions

Why do councilors appear to criticise everything that comes out of mayors office?

It's as if he's Trump and their knee jerk reaction is to ask, WTF are you asking of us?!

Build more housing? That's not possible bc of a b c

Yet Housing first!
Can you explain how we have councillors shouting we need to build more housing yet they aren't leaping up and down supporting the mayor when he sets an actual number

Please explain how this is consistent

And not just pattern of negatively reacting to whatever the @mayorkwilson.bsky.social says

Im the second to repost this. Guess who the first was?

This is not the energy I want to see.

Do you? If you say yes, do you take life seriously enough?

And if you think you do, thank your rich parents for your comfortability.

Who will admit, I tend to go straight to outrage to prove I'm on the "good side"

I think we're still more alike than different.
Let's not go straight to outrage. A question is not outrage.
January 13, 2026 at 5:48 PM
Maybe we rewrite they're trying to say?

How else do we move forward?

My heritage is written by me - acknowledging my family's journey and I get to live here to tell my story with life, liberty and happiness

Our story wasn't easy but life here is a dream come true

Why go straight to outrage?
Good god. I am a 9th-generation American. My ancestors were here when the USA was 13 colonies. I am who they're talking to. But the fact is, I come from a family of colonizers who tortured and murdered to get their way. Is that the One Heritage you're talking about, bro?

Fuck this.

The similarity with Minneapolis is this too.

Timing and process.

Both situations showed terrible decision making by the people who are supposed to be following a set of rules.

After a shooting, are they hurt? Check and find out.

Failed both.
That is why this incident hits so deeply at a human level.

It undermines the rule of law. When armed federal agents can use deadly force, leave the scene, and then control the narrative afterward, accountability becomes fragile at best.

What I would like to see is a demonstration of critically thinking through an issue

What are the questions we ought to ask, what are the answers in this particularly situation and what are good next steps for us to take individually and as a city.

@pamela-fitzsimmons.bsky.social

Look at this weak answer
"Pretty sure"

Can we have someone w a backbone ask city govt workers?

Look at the language he used, "Try to make them"

Yet they're in charge of "policy"

What will you "try to make us do" as a city?

Are we a warm collective or rugged individualists?

Consistency pls
pretty sure my staff ride transit or bike to work. i don’t know, i don’t check or try to make them ride the bus, which would be inappropriate. these days i drive more than i’d like, bc it’s anywhere between 45 - 60 min from door to door to get to the office. i switch modes depending on circumstances
January 7, 2026 at 4:00 PM
Can we ask how many days a week his staff use public transit to go into the office?

Let's calculate this for all the govt workers.

How many use public transit daily?

Anyone? Anyone?

@trimet.org @mayorkwilson.bsky.social @coachmaxsteele.substack.com
the real doom loop is service cuts to our transit system. if you cut frequency on an already infrequent system, it’s going to hurt ridership, which will lead to more cuts and fare hikes, which further hurt ridership. all of that of course adds future liabilities to the rest of the transport system

This is not acceptable

From 2015 to 2030(?) Portland lost its way.

It assumes it's gonna find its way in 2030 after all the people in Power are long gone and made their money

Fight back, Portlanders… we need our politicians to be more effective NOW!

What is the appeal of low expectations?
In addition, as reported in The Oregonian, Mayor Wilson announced several goals to revitalize our central city: By 2030 he wants to see downtown foot traffic reach pre-pandemic levels, two million square feet of empty office space filled, and 2,500 new housing units under way.
Here are 3 things Portland’s mayor wants to see in the central city by 2030
Hitting any one of the targets announced by Mayor Keith Wilson will likely be an extremely tall order.
