Yup it’s as if the Know Nothing campaign against Italian and Irish Catholics never happened and that they were not demeaned, excluded, and not white (as was true of my Jewish German and Polish grandparents and my extended family’s Italian and Irish Catholic grandparents).

Also Miller’s intolerance is blind to the fact that his fellow travelers see him as Jewish and out if they had their way. He is delusional, hateful, ignorant, and self-sabotaging. Not commenting on your disagreement (and I love James). Just dismayed.

It’s not “dunking” to point out that racial hierarchies are fluid and that present racists conveniently ignore the racial judgments of prior generations of racists as they attempt to appeal to now-white members of the former underclass
I see a lot of people dunking on Miller, and rightly so. But the point of racism isn't the internal coherence, but the power structure: Getting to determine who is in and who is out. In other words, a small group of people get to decide -- not abstract rules.

Because in the 1910s, Southern Italians were considered to be “brown immigrants”
What’s the point of stupid comments like this when everyone knows he means black and brown immigrants???

Side note: Sinatra’s mom Natalina “Dolly” Garaventa, a midwife by trade, ran an underground free abortion clinic, chained herself to a fence to fight for women’s suffrage and was an extremely influential organizer for the Democratic Party

A reminder that Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra’s parents emigrated here during a period when Italians were considered to be a genetically inferior and criminal-minded underclass that Stephen Miller’s racist predecessors said should be excluded from America

I say his gently, but…

There’s something unspeakably shameful The United States letting people go hungry.

Not because its government doesn’t fix it —

but because tomorrow a few private Americans could, and never notice the cost.

That’s the part that sits wrong.

I've decided that my problem is not that I'm too hard on men.

My problem is that #yall are too easy on them.

And, so, I must go harder 😌

It's wild because the only reason they don't have sidewalks is racism.

Reason #250387 why the suburbs are trash.
the suburbs not being fully walkable is crazy. sidewalks just be ending out of nowhere.

It's not "The Muppets Pat the Bunny." Dickens is strong stuff. Try the Christmas story about the goblins who stole a sexton (there's a recording of Boris Karloff reading it if you never want to feel warm and cozy about Dickens again.)

Also, doublechecked later and the Muppets Christmas Carol came out in 1992 and the first Harry Potter movie came out in 2001. Those Harry Potter people owe money to the Muppets for lifting this guy for their film. And yes I do think they should pay Kermit directly.

It’s our favorite version of A Christmas Carol. In my opinion, Michael Caine was the most believable Scrooge. It felt really possible that this man could be redeemed, as opposed to the George C. Scott portrayal. I hate that movie because he made it so inconceivable he actually changed.
