We finish up the year with a report from the Climate Change Advisory Council that the minister and department for Climate have basically just do not get it that we are in a climate crisis. So disappointing. www.irishtimes.com/environment/...

This is making a mockery of the Nobel Peace Prize. It is proof Machado didn't deserve it. It should be revoked.

A reminder from Huffington Post that DHS and ICE have opened fire on unarmed civilians 16 times since Trump took office, killing 4 people. In every case, DHS claims that the victims "assaulted officers" and/or tried to ram them with cars. In every case, evidence proves they are lying. Every time.
A Disturbing Pattern Has Emerged In Trump's Second Term — And It's Playing Out With Renee Good
“How else do you justify shooting a stay-at-home mom with stuffed animals in her car?” the attorney for one woman who survived a federal agent’s gunfire told HuffPost.

That’s an insult to 5-year olds.

A dangerous and corrupt moron.
Trump 'orders US army chiefs to draw up plan to invade Greenland'
Donald Trump has ordered his special forces commanders to draw up a plan for the invasion of Greenland - but is being resisted by senior military figures, The Mail on Sunday has learned.

If fewer Americans had voted for Trump, Renee Good would be alive and caring for her child today.
No matter what lies Trump and his propagandists spread, no matter what nonsense the media prints, no matter what conspiracies MAGA invents, that remains manifestly true.

JD Vance isn’t just a really nasty politician, he’s a vile human being.

He’s like a politician from The Handmaids Tale come to life, the guy would be well at home in Gilead.

He’s just disgusting, really, really disgusting.

Her vehicle's right front panel cleared the ICE agent who didn't open fire until after he was at the side of her vehicle. He used deadly force on a fleeing individual, which is against DHS policy. This is murder. He needs to be arrested.

Here’s some things that can be done by a party out of power

- file impeachment articles every day in the House

- withhold unanimous consent in the senate and filibuster every nominee

- be everywhere with comms saying this is lawless and impeachable

This is also a field test.

If the press lets them muddy the waters on executing a woman in Minneapolis despite multiple witnesses and video recordings clearly depicting what happened, the message they'll take away is that there's nothing they can't get away with.

Nothing.

Wars are NOT inevitable.

Climate change doom is NOT inevitable.

They are both symptoms of a broader and deeper societal and individual malaise: apathy.

For nonlawyers, it’s worth noting that statements like this have—as a formal matter—important legal effects as a matter of international law. If such statements are *not* made, and in volume, future arguments that Trump’s invasion sets a legal precedent will stand on much firmer legal ground.
Norway’s Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide: "International law is universal and binding for all states. The American intervention in Venezuela is not in accordance with international law."

This is the key thing about nice small towns: it’s not the density, it’s the compactness
Increasingly convinced that we need to be doing more policy design not around density but around _compactness_ — land uses clustered together in a contiguous way. Which in turn makes it structurally possible to get between more places without a car

Shameless Garda PR blitz links road deaths to visibility issues in cases where there is no link
Comment & Analysis: Sadly, I have to start this article by saying, for the avoidance of doubt, nothing in this article says 'don't be visible'. Lights are a legal requirement, and it'd be a good start if the Gardai enforced them, and people walking should take steps to be visible on unlit roads. I get it, nobody likes it when people are walking on unlit roads in the dark without lights and wearing dark clothing, and it's annoying when some cyclists think they are ninjas.
