I write full time largely because of one thread about getting high with the Irish president. As cringe as it is to admit, my entire life has been massively enhanced by Twitter and ketamine over precisely the same time that those two things have proven less beneficial for Elon Musk.

The reason the Right are so invested in the myth that the arts have no value isn’t because the arts don’t generate wealth (they do); it’s that studying the arts teaches people to imagine better ways of judging the value of an idea than by counting how much money it makes…

5/ Fun fact: Edgeworth, AH Bowley, & Edwin Cannan were keen cyclists, but Edgeworth annoyingly liked to chat math shop A Lot on their rides. Cannan is reported to have said "Bowley, let us go a little faster, Edgeworth cannot talk mathematics at more than eight miles an hour."
Not Edgeworth unfortunately - Ronald Fisher and William Sealy Gossett ("Student") before going on a bike ride

A someone who has written extensively about the eugenic roots that permeates those who claim to be building so-called artificial general intelligence, I'm here to tell you to please NOT compare criticism against corporations claiming to build a machine god, with eugenics. The audacity.
if you're writing a sentence that sounds like eugenics but you go "oh that's fine to say because it's not a real person" (whatever that means) you may want to consider what made you okay with saying that.

Personal security question as sadly running Ugly Mugs means I'm constantly being threatened by violent men. Does anyone know of a good parcel box? I need a way to receive packages too big to fit through a letterbox, without my having to open the door.

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.

There’s a Stairway to Heaven, but a Highway to Hell. This implies Heaven is a walkable community, and Hell is a congested interstate.

Very likely, but not crash out ignominiously.

OTOH, it's a true measure of the importance of the presidency (purely ceremonial, for all that MDH and the two Marys brought it dignity and culture).

IMHO, that Trump never replied to the absolutely humiliating South Park episode from this season is the strongest evidence that his inner circle has successfully created a (false) information bubble around him. Trump has never exhibited sufficient self control to simply ignore something like that.

This feels like evidence Trump's aides are deliberately gaslighting him, which is unfortunately very easy to do with dementia sufferers (Trump did it to his father) and which aides are using to seize control of the US military for their own purposes.
