we didn't have a crossing guard at a busy intersection near my kid's school and for a while, the only thing that got drivers to stop (at a crosswalk! while I was walking with a kindergartener!) was when I held up a brick in my hand while crossing the street

I told my kids "it is good and important to pee in the potty" but like with the same cadence I would say "it is good and proper to die for your country."
