The average ICE recruit after the election was a fascist, but it included a lot of extremely dumb people who thought they were being patriotic. That won't be true anymore. The next class of graduates of ICE's training academy will be exclusively violent fascists with an obsessive intent to kill.

Never forget that the reason they are so convinced you’re all getting paid is that they are all getting paid.
The fact that every right winger with influence screams "who is paying for all of this" tells you exactly how awash in cash they all are, and how much they rely on that to keep their movement afloat.
James O'Keefe says he's never seen anything so organized as the anti-ICE movement, observers--he seems to think this term is code--everywhere he goes. Who is paying for it??? he demands to know. It's like he can't even imagine people caring for one another.

no offense to this adorable white dog but if you’re talking about nonvoters in the last election, you’re not in the right frame of mind to help people, or even understand the situation in Minnesota. time to make like a dot org and Move On
the two choices in American politics are "yeah they're not exactly where I am on a lot of issues but there's also lots of overlap of my views"

and

"they are stabbing me in the balls with knitting needles right now"

and too many people say "this is the same"

any politician under 50 that willingly identifies as a Blue Dog democrat has the same weird complex Artur Davis had: an obscene arrogance in believing they captured the one narrow path to victory, with an intense stupidity--because it's the one path most likely to end their career the fastest
jared golden’s vote for DHS might be the most galling for me because Maine has a lot of Somalis who are being targeted *right now.* the day after the mass shooting in Lewiston he reversed his gun control beliefs. (maybe because white people died?) and yet no love for Lewiston Somalis. what a dick!

A minor thing, but I hope the NIMBYs who typically scream that safe streets and housing advocates are just paid shills or in the pocket of Big Bike or whatever understand that they're a lot closer to Trumpism than they probably care to admit.

the smartest thing to do right now would be to make a show of disciplining some ICE agents and quietly pull back from minneapolis. the president offers his condolences and maybe even makes a direct donation to the family. you fire bovino and replace him with someone more quietly depraved, etc.

i think this attitude — that all opposition is illegitimate and nothing we do can be questioned— is probably pervasive in the white house and helps explain why they keep making terrible political choices
Putin pioneered this. No opposition is legitimate. Regular, decent, “ordinary” people cannot possibly be against us because only we represent “the real people.”

Tell-tale sign of authoritarianism.

the thing is, if you earnestly believed they were gonna rig everything and manage to pull off a totalitarian takeover, you wouldn't be on this website, unless you're just a colossal idiot. you would be doing other things in preparation

you don't believe it. stop this mopey horseshit
strange to me that a lot of people on this website simultaneously agree that the administration is run by incompetents who struggle to carry out their agenda without major political blowback AND that they’ll pull off a complex and sophisticated effort to rig elections and prevent defeat in November

You have to read this. Firsthand affidavit from one of the women who was there and recording the video. She talks about how Alex Pretti was directing traffic when she arrived. She watched him be killed in front of her. She's afraid to go home, worried she'll be arrested.

BTW when I say abolish ICE, I mean abolish it entirely and replace it with exactly nothing. Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free. That's it.

I remain absolutely furious that all this shit in Minneapolis started because a barely-literate homeschooled mormon made a video trying to run up in daycare centers trying to find people of Somalian descent doing fraud despite the ringleader (a white woman) being in jail since March. Demonic.

YouGov is out with a new poll after ICE killed another person in Minnesota today. Abolishing ICE is now +5 among all adults, and **+12 among independents**

Huge scandal that Minneapolis has been crawling with terrorists this whole time. They've been living among us undercover as poets and nurses. And would've continued to, had it not been for the work of our bravest child kidnappers

this reminds me of the way i’ve seen susan bro speak about her daughter, heather heyer. when a fascist murders your child, you aren’t allowed to just grieve. you have to defend their memory, even their very grave.

What a stark, horrifying demonstration of the tension a union opens itself to when it organizes security forces.

If you hesitate to condemn the killing of a member, for fear of alienating the members who fired the guns, what sort of cage have you built around your union?
My god.

Statement from AFGE: Alex was a member. His killer may have been as well.

The term martyr means “witness.” The man was murdered for bearing witness, literally bearing it, not arms but a camera. Murdered for seeing.

somber resignment is what they fear most because it means those who stand against them are no longer deterred by the playbook

and without that playbook they have nothing
Only speaking personally, but today’s execution isn’t scaring me from protecting our neighbors, as some suggest is ICE’s goal. Nor am I angry with incandescent rage, in that I know such rage is unhelpful. Rather, I feel like it has forced me to truly accept that the same fate might befall me.

I think it is time for there to be blowback and a scandal for any elected Democrat even saying this sort of thing. You should be shamed for pretending this is a thing. We do not need this gesture anymore. The Republicans are the Nazi Party and Donald Trump is their Fuhrer.
