Here are a couple of Wood Ducks I saw on Cottonwood Lake today. I've seen the females before, but this is the first time I've seen the male - wow! That's the most beautiful duck I've ever seen. #birds #photography #woodduck #hellyerpark 🪶

BIRD TIME 🪶

• Lark sparrow. probably my favorite sparrow, the facial markings are so cool
• yellow warbler. common bird, me getting a clean photo of one is highly uncommon
• acorn woodpecker. highly social doofuses
• Bewick’s wren. tiny but bold and loud

This is not the greatest photo, but one I was so pleased to get. A pair of quail came down mid-morning to a waterhole on a mostly dried up creek near Portal, AZ. I had only heard Montezuma Quail and had fleeting glimpses of them flying before this encounter. 🪶 #birds #photography #wildlife

Gracklepalooza continues with no signs of slowing!
This male Common Grackle was heading over to the tree nearer the creek. It always amazes me how birds fly among tree branches so easily!

Last night at Moth Night, we saw a lot more than moths. The highlight was happening upon this beaver absolutely chowing down on some wood, corn on the cob style. You’re gonna want to put your sound on for this one.

Crows harassing a Great Horned Owl in our backyard.😱
I don’t think I have seen this behaviour before. 🤔
I am sure the owl would win any fight with the crows. 🦉

Coyotes are very friendly. They'll hang out with badgers, ravens, bears, raccoons...

"That this welcoming of another species, this befriending of another species, this is actually classic coyote behavior."

Bald eagles kind of fuck me up because I’m old enough and young enough that there was a real chance I might never see a wild one. But we Decided To Try (tm) and now there are 2 flying around my house.

Anyway we should probably Decide To Try (harder) on a lot of things rn
