Do y'all get that the only way out is through, yet?

Nothing is going to get better unless there's a whole lot of unspeakable violence directed at Certain Structures

All I'm saying is, y'know, Steam wouldn't sell it, Epic said they would and then went "nuh-uh" 24 hours before launch, Humble yanked it *after* launch — if you want a copy of that videogame, it's on Itch *now,* but Itch has preexisting "fold here" origami lines for Mastercard to lean on,

you die on the hill of defending controversial art, porn, and unpopular speech. if you wait for an easier hill to die on your opponents will have consolidated that much more power, established that much more precedent that their authority to censor anything they want is the norm.

I think there's no better illustration that fandom is a relationship to capital — an absurd relationship of willing parasocial submission to capital — than the notion of "comic book canon".

"we haven't seen you at DriveThruRPG in a while!"

yeah, that's because you're shit

Now, either a wave of videogame storefronts are refusing to sell a title because they're a flock of easily-spooked sheep, or—say it with me—Mastercard are threatening them behind the scenes and, as previously established, they're all too scared of being debanked to refuse *or* point the finger

I have nearly finished Q3 of 14 on this paperwork, but of course it's disability paperwork from the British government, so all of them are "write a mandatory essay detailing your LIES which we'll use to cut off all income and maybe throw you in jail if we feel like it, you subhuman drain on society"

I am filling out paperwork for the DWP and I kinda want to die instead

So the system is working as intended,

Been having real good discussion about this off-site, wanted to hit a Lap 2 and mention some observations I made on my tumblr earlier today as a sort of amendment to an ask I received talking about this subject (both shown here in a single post so I don't clog up the TL with a thread)

Wishing every piece of software using GTK a sincerely sympathetic "wow, you're gonna have to redesign your entire app every time the GNOME desktop people smoke enough weed and start going Have You Ever Really, Like, THOUGHT About Converged Phone UI, Maaaaan"
You have to understand that one source of the terrible experience of using open source software is because the devs are constantly dealing with shit like Oops! The User Interface Toolkit You Innocently Used Has Decided Buttons Are Ideologically Suspect And Removed Them As A Feature

When I say "modern": this is a game that launched in, I think, 2015? And targeted Ubuntu as its "look, we need a fixed point in this sea of chaos" Supported Linux Platform.

The system it wouldn't run on was Ubuntu circa, iirc, 2020.
My favourite illustrative story about Simply providing linux binaries is the game Victor Vran, which *did.*

You can't run them on a modern system.

Oh wow, there's a bit of history I didn't know: so many labour songs are set to the tune of hymns because the fucking Sally Army would turn up to disrupt union organising by playing loudly to drown them out

As always, fuck the Salvation Army

"Steam's Proton wouldn't even need to be a thing if not for lazydevs, who Simply need to build linux binaries!!!!"

Ah, a Gamer with an Opinion. Truly the world's infallible authority on what developers could Simply Do

Sincerely considering writing to be a craft skill leads me to have very strong and possibly unhinged opinions, like "the fanfic subcultures which centre works featuring the textual device 'Y/N' are moral voids which produce anti-writing"

I know the aggressively non-interoperable silos of the corporate internet have spawned whole cottage industries of "you made this? I made this :3" screenshots-of-funny-posts-on-other-sites Guys,

My timeline is spackled with people dunking on some centrist fuck chin-stroking "oh of *course* we should support disabled people But, not at the expense of what if hypothetically people were only pretending to need help?" and y'all are being kind.

That's Nazi talk.

Yesterday, the Epic Games Store decided at the last minute not to distribute the game, after having previously approved a release build. HORSES is otherwise now available on GOG, Itch, and Humble for $4.99. www.horses.wtf

Oh, that? Yeah, picked it up at a flea market. Wood needed reconditioning, but at least it saves it from fucking upcyclers throwing a goddamn paint wash on it, right?

Yeah, must have been a witch's, you know—

Oh, because of the noises it makes when you take the knives out. Or, uh, put 'em back in

We're a few years, at most, away from being able to do "I remember firsthand the window of human history *after* the invention of the search engine and *before* the companies that ran them deliberately destroyed them over an investor-scamming fad for replacing working things with SEO spambots"
