But I feel like my brain's ability to see connections is really hampering any drive I have to try and write and create things.

All I usually see is a paler version of other people's creations that doesn't even quite live up to what I saw in my head.

Interviewers often ask – Do I feel grateful for having fans so dedicated that I've remained a cultural icon for over a century? They expect me to blush and smile. To give a mild, polite, rehearsed reply where I make myself small. Where I say I am nothing without my followers, whose dedication has kept me alive. It's amusing to see their discomfort when I say that my fans don't keep me relevant. It's not the fervor of the dedicated that keeps my memory from fading in the hands of time. I am relevant because of what I represent. I am rebellion. I am satire, and dark humor, and a profound desire for justice. I am a caricature of a class traitor… or at least I began that way. I was the image of a laborer's wife who tried so hard to imitate the bourgeoisie she ended up being rejected by one group and ridiculed by the other. In that sense, I am not 'grateful' for those who remember me. Rather, I find solidarity and sisterhood and comradery in those who are fed up with injustice and understand the urgency of equity and justice and human rights. I despise those who use my sanitized, de-fanged and brand-friendly image to represent a celebration from a culture they both oppress and fail to understand. Just like they fail to understand that the dead are hungry, and have a preference for rich meat.
