that shit was truly unhinged. i know it was only a small subset of players who engaged in that behavior but the misogynistic hostility motivating it, the sense that games should only ever fulfill our expectations & that women who threaten or destabilize that should be silenced, etc. are much larger.
As good as the Last of Us is tonight, when it happened in the game in 2020, it resulted in the voice actress for Abby and her family being threatened over it. She received death threats threatening her newborn child.
