I went vegetarian at the start of this year for what my partner describes as "Dale Gribble reasons" (not trusting the gov't). On Christmas, I'm full of portobello mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, mashed potato, and wine. I feel like I've made good decisions.

Muddling Toward a Creative Method — Broken Hands Media
Here’s my contention: just as my piece on intelligence argued that intelligence and talent don’t exist, and that it’s merely the result of practice becoming invisible (i.e., intelligence is the resul...

fucking NO.
Hard no to this: French publisher Harlequin has told translators that their work will now be done by AI. They can ‘revise’ AI translations at much lower rate. It’s a subsidiary of Harper Collins so treat this as a test for rollout elsewhere
"Bradage de la traduction, plan social invisible : Harlequin passe à l’IA"

Faites tourner, parce qu'il va falloir se battre encore plus. :/

I've made it a personal goal to stop using the term "content" when referring to media made by artists. The word implies mass-produced filler and calling someone's hard work their "content" has started to feel kinda like an insult. Like human art made strictly for quick consumption
the enthusiasm for generative AI would not have been possible without prior decades of capitalist conditioning to view works of art as products, rather than acts of culture and shared human life
I think the fundamental gap here is that non-creative people think that creative people make things for the end product, when in fact it’s the act of creation and not the end point that makes it worthwhile.

A plan, based on a few years of experience: two simple methods for spotting AI writing while grading papers.
The Busy Adjunct’s Guide to Spotting AI — Broken Hands Media
So, there are two routes you can take, and much like a particle faced with a pair of slits in a surface, you must take both. One of them is mechanistic and simple, if slightly time-consuming. The ot...

A short but powerful list of books for today. I think I enjoyed B.R. Yeager's 'Negative Space' the most, out of the fiction I read, though I also finished 'Aztec Philosophy: Understanding a World in Motion' by James Maffie, and that was a real brain-bender.

Check out more detailed thoughts below:
