Something that I've noticed in #yeg that's different from other cities in Canada I've lived in (MTL, Waterloo, Ottawa, Toronto) is how they clear snow on arterials.

They push the snow to the centre, creating a median out of snow. Slows cars down and more accessible curbs.

Unpopular opinion but honestly @octranspo.com needs fare zones. The City of Ottawa is a monolith bigger than any other city in Canada and closer in size to multi-city metropolitan regions like Greater Montreal (with four zones) and Metro Vancouver (with three zones). Same fare for all is unfair!
Congratulations on the second most expensive transit system in Canada after York Region Transit.
🚨 Fare changes are now in effect.

Japan's "Mundane Halloween" costume contest is back!

Each year website DailyPortalZ holds a contest where people dress up as something super duper ordinary.

Here's a thread of some of my favorites from the 2025 contest!

another thing: furniture stores and the like should have to give me an option to view measurements in inches or in cm on all parts of their website. I should be able to choose to filter my options in cm. I'm restricting myself to like two furniture shops based on being the only ones with cm.

Hey canadians. Theyre continuing to dig in their heels on ID verification.

Let them, and your govt, know how you feel about this issue and how it will not protect kids.

For decades the early buyers of renewable electricity paid higher bills because the technology was still developing and more expensive

Now that renewables are cheaper, it's a scandal that our bills are kept artificially high by the costs of fossil generation
Apparently this needs repeating (again)

Dhara Vyas, chief executive of industry body Energy UK tells Carbon Brief that it is “crystal clear what has driven electricity bills up in the UK…it’s the wholesale costs, driven by the price of gas”.

this is how I want to be.
My partner & I were trying to ID a bird we heard while walking and the guy who had stopped his car to let us pass got out and was like "it's a frog, actually. Cope's Gray. I do frog surveys... Sorry" And then got in his car without a word and drove off. Absolute king

y'all I'm glad we didn't get pp but between Ford actively tearing apart our province (both institutionally and literally) and Carney being at best a centrist I am fucking tired already and it feels like no one is paying attention no the elections are done.

fucked that Ford did this shit in Ontario last week (forcing the bill through with little to no debate or consultation) and now Parliament wants to do it federally like I'm begging you to seek prosperity for this country other than feeding its resources to the big capitalism machine.

The Palo Verde Beetle, one of my favorite local invertebrates. They emerge during the monsoon season in the Sonoran Desert and freak people out due to their size and clumsy flying style. They're harmless and I love them.

ok finally something I feel a little confident talking about.

I think there's a growing overreliance on outsourcing production and it's pushing out DIY makers, further commercializing furry art, & resulting in slimmer profit margins. this is how I handle nearly all my production myself:
Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I think we should have SOME considerations about the overproduction of "merch" items being super heavily relied on as our primary income as artists. I've been shifting more and more towards traditional art & handmade reproduction over the last decade,

without exaggeration censorship words like 'unaliving' is straight out of 1984

it's actually pretty scary to me how much this censorship code has culturally taken root because even I feel words like kill, rape, suicide, incest, porn, etc -- it feels outright transgressive to say now.
