In many ways, 2025 resembled Back to the Future, and not only because Donald Trump returned to the White House in January, writes François Diaz-Maurin.

"Less than one year into his second term, President Trump has exhibited Cold War-era thinking several times already."

Bending your institution to meet the prejudices of your dumbest, meanest students is a surefire way to destroy a university.

Now any student can just scrawl “the Bible says this is wrong” on any test and skate to an A at the Oklahoma Football Outlet and Diploma Factory.

I’m nobody special and I’ve had right wing extremists try to ruin every aspect of my personal and professional life, including showing up in person and leaving written death threats at my work and home. This “problem” is an inherent part of right wing extremism; it’s a feature not a bug.

This man is a cancer and any future way forward needs to start with holding him accountable in a court of law for his crimes.
In a profile of Stephen Miller with @swin24.bsky.social, we reported he’s privately laughed off immigrant families’ “sob stories.”

Speaking last night on Fox about the spiked CECOT story, Miller laughed about how ‘60 Minutes’ is “trying to tell sob stories."

Hard to overstate how bad this is.

The people doing anti-hate and anti-disinformation work are now being sanctioned by the United States of America.

This is really, really, really bad.

Houston really is a perfect example of where decades of strictly car-centric policy will get you, and surprise, it's not only bad for everyone else but it makes drivers even more angry and stressed
Spotted in Houston: two hacked variable message signs. That the signs were placed on the sidewalk, blocking pedestrian access, makes the messages all the more urgent.

Ontario’s $80B highway plan will worsen traffic, warns new study
Environmental advocates are urging the province to build hundreds of kilometres of rapid transit lines that they say would be more effective at reducing road congestion

The nation-building project Canada actually needs is to double down on the care economy.

There are millions of care workers doing essential, low-carbon work that holds our society together. Our plan will massively expand and improve these jobs – for the benefit of everyone.

Despite the promise of $10/day childcare, countless families are stuck on waitlists – and the sector faces a workforce shortage caused by poor wages and benefits.

Our plan will deliver universal, affordable childcare, staffed by fairly-compensated educators delivering high-quality programs.

Caring for society’s most vulnerable shouldn’t be a place for profit.

Our plan will end for-profit long-term care, regulate the sector under the Canada Health Act, and expand public and non-profit options so elders can age with dignity, wherever and however they choose.

Healthcare based on need, not the ability to pay, is a principle that unites people across Canada. It’s our party’s crowning achievement.

Today, I’m releasing our plan to take back public healthcare – and finish the job Tommy Douglas started.

We need an alternative to the 5 big banks that make record profits while charging us excessive fees. That's why postal banking is at the heart of our plan to stop price gouging: breaking the dominance of the big banks, strengthening the postal service, & saving you money.

Crunching the numbers on postal banking in Canada - CCPA
Among the many proposals to transform Canada Post, one stands out: postal banking. It’s a program that could contribute to solving multiple policy problems at once—help support our postal service with stable revenue, boost financial inclusion and enhance public services, and, unlike conventional banks that put profit first, create accessible public interest banking services.

This is the second time she’s done this to me personally, and she’s done this to others too.
