Obviously this celeb isn't putting his flesh on the line anytime soon, but it's good to remember that the blowback of too much wanton, public state killing is that more people are forced to contemplate and possibly accept the idea that they may have to die for their values

It's called "The Atlantic" because that's the ocean that contains the island where they met all their prominent hires
We’re excited to announce that David Brooks is joining The Atlantic as a staff writer. The Atlantic will be the home for all of his writing, and he will also host a new weekly video podcast that will launch later this spring. www.theatlantic.com/press-releas...

Nothing beats "in order to reform this institution that flagrantly ignores its own rules, we will approve a new rule saying they have to follow the rules"
SCHUMER says Democrats are “united” behind three DHS reforms

1/ End roving patrols; tighten the rules on warrants and require ICE to coordinate with local authorities.

2/ Enforce accountability; a uniform code of conduct.

3/ Require masks off, body cameras on, agents carry ID.

Hey remember like 3 weeks ago when we did a little press blitz whining about how the vicious, powerful tranny lobby was falsely accusing us of pushing anti-trans narratives? Anyway, here's a TERF to explain that anyone who doesn't like Harry Potter hates freedom
In @nytopinion.nytimes.com

Younger generations “have fallen out of love with Harry Potter because they have fallen out of love with the worldview the series represents,” writes Louise Perry. “Which is to say that young people have fallen out of love with liberalism.”
Opinion | Why Gen Z Doesn’t Love ‘Harry Potter’
The wizarding worldview is naïve.

"Hypocrisy, or Straussian friend-enemy distinction?"

I think a lot about how the moral panic about video games causing violence dried up overnight the second CoD started selling like gangbusters.

This legacy continues in the comment sections of shortform clips of TV/movies
There’s this story I sometimes tell about a Gifted & Talented thing I did as a kid, where all the kids knew that “Ring Around the Rosy” was about the plague but they didn’t know how to adjust for these other kids who knew that too, so a bunch of 6 year olds just stood in a circle telling each other

Dems are proud of the fact that they won the 2020 election pretending to want to rein in police corruption, then gave them even more condition-free funding once they were in the majority. You can definitely trust them when they say they'll rein in ICE once they get the majority back

This is one of the Dem Senators who pretended to want to pass police reform in summer 2020. You can really tell how genuine he was about that with this proposal to give a massive fucking check to police
Public safety means stopping violent crime — not weaponizing ICE against our communities.

That’s why I'm proposing a bill that redirects nearly $75 billion from ICE to local law enforcement.

Chuckling at the people in the U.S. who consistently shit on people who live in "red" states... Well according to others in the world, the entire US is now a "red" state. Not so easy to overthrow authoritarians, is it?
Important perspective from Greenland.

We have a former Bank of England Governor and Canadian PM declaring the "rules-based international order" over. We have the New Right PM of Belgium, Bart de Wever, cite the Gramsci quote about the time of monsters. I think we can officially say we have entered the Cool Zone bsky.app/profile/bria...
In a speech to the World Economic Forum, Mark Carney says middle powers such as Canada must accept that the rules-based international order is effectively dead, and great power rivalry with is here to stay. Key excerpt:

For anyone who missed it, here's a summary of Keir Starmers speech this morning: the UK govt will not stand up to Trump.

The incredibly lukewarm Democratic response on Greenland is being noticed in Europe, incidentally.

Chuck Schumer not finding a stronger word than “quixotic” for Trump’s plan to seize Greenland has been name checked to me more than once.
But Americans who want to save the alliance with Europe must have no illusions about how bad a condition this transatlantic partnership is in.
