Unfortunately, couldn't find a reason for the bear however it bears a lot of resemblance to the Asian black bear, which is native to South Korea. I assume the squadron chose a bear as a simple mascot all the way up until their disbandment.

#patchoftheday - 25 - 156th Fighter sqdr, 17th Fighter Wing

Established in 1988 they are a now defunct South Korean fighter squadron. They operated the venerable F-4E until their disbandment in 2012 due to the aging fleet. They boasted 70,000 hours of accident-free flight
