Exciting stuff. A young male hedgehog now building a nest in the hedgehog house I put out. I've put a lot of hay in there and then put hay around and he's been dragging extra in.

You might see the wonderful work we have done for the Small Blue if you click on the links below. Even though the project ran 2009-12 weeks are still actively managing those sites & working hard at ensuring the butterfly continues to thrive in Warwickshire 😀🦋

Most common garden problems can be solved without the need for harmful chemicals 🧪❌

For aphids, try using a hose attachment to spray them off, or simply removing them with a cloth.
Butterfly Conservation's guide to gardening without pesticides: Aphids. Graphic shows a hose spraying aphids off a plant with water. Text reads: 'Most aphids can be sprayed off with a hose. Encourage predators by growing flowers such as Michaelmas Daisy and Fennel that attract hoverflies, beetles and ladybirds.'

Our National Parks are at risk. ⚠️

From the rugged Lakes to the sweeping South Downs, these landscapes define us and our future. They sustain wildlife, communities and our wellbeing - and they must be protected.

A future that puts them at risk isn't what anyone voted for.
A scenic view of a National Park landscape with a winding stone path leading through green hills and valleys under soft sunlight. In the centre of the image, bold black text on a red-and-black hazard-striped background reads: “DON’T WEAKEN NATIONAL PARK PROTECTIONS.” Below it, in white text, is the hashtag “#NationalParksMatter.”

One from the archive for #NationalBadgerDay.

#MammalMonday #UKWildlife #Mammals
Photo of a Eurasian Badger cub (Meles meles) foraging on the woodland floor. The cub is heading towards the photographer, head turned towards the left side of the image. The Eurasian Badger has a white face with a thick black stripe on either side, each one running upwards from the muzzle and enclosing the eye and white-tipped ear. The legs and feet are black, while the body appears greyish or, when the Badger lives in a burrow system (or sett) dug into sandy soil as in this case, brownish.

Ive been scribbling my thoughts about the landscape around Cropton and had to share this lovely Peter Dunn reconstruction of the Motte and Bailey Castle just outside the modern village.

(Found on the Woodland Trust Interpretation Panel for the site)
Fantastic Peter Dunn reconstruction painting of the medieval village of Cropton with crofts reaching. Ack to a stone and wood motte and bailey castle on the edge of a green wooded ridge.

The Redwing steals the show in today’s #AutumnArrivalSpotlight! 🍂

Their rusty red flanks and soft ‘seep seep’ calls are a sure sign of autumn as flocks sweep in overnight from icy Scandinavia, Iceland and Russia.

Spot them enjoying berries in our fields and hedgerows.

I hope you find the window when you re-visit. Have you seen the Tom Denny windows in the Audley Chapel? They really are so beautiful. I spent half an hour in there taking photos and just gazing at them!

From memory it is towards the West End of the Cathedral on the south side near the font and tomb of Sir Richard Pembridge. (I think the font has recently been moved to its current position?)

I am a stranger here in Gloucestershire.
These high wild hills and rough uneven ways
Draws out our miles and makes them wearisome.
And yet your fair discourse hath been as sugar,
Making the hard way sweet and delectable.

The very colourful rood screen at the Church of All Saints in Earls Barton, Northamptonshire, has some unusual decoration…it was re-painted in 1935 by Henry Bird, who happened to be a lepidopterist and incorporated hundreds of butterflies into his design!
