@zekecohen.bsky.social Substantial increase over six years of homeless young peolle, even as the total population of city schools has fallen slightly since 2019-2020.

Is this part of study on chronic absenteeism? Budget planning for FY27 and beyond?

A key but overlooked aspect of the housing crisis—the lack of family friendly housing. The deliberate failure of most localities to meeting the need is not just a market rate issue—LIHTC also builds few 3BRs or is senior-only. Yet safe, stable housing in healthy n-hoods is most critical for kids.

I wrote a real estate investor focused essay in Thesis Driven on the in-depth applications of the Institute for Family Studies paper I did with Lyman Stone

Japanese internment was first and foremost a land grab by central California white farmers.

Thankfully my neighborhood group isn't awful. But there are some I've had to leave because of the racists. On the flip side, none of the businesses in those neighborhoods get my money, so I guess it's a win for me.

PS -- Nextdoor is a cesspool.

No heat, sparky electrical wiring, plugs that give off their own 4th of July fireworks display, soggy floors -- YEP, LOOKS GREAT. HERE'S YOUR RENTAL LICENSE!
carolsott.bsky.social
Also, why isn't the name of the inspector/inspection company listed in the City's rental license database? That's important information that should be publicly available.

Plus I'd like to know who's doing all of these shoddy inspections, because my GOD.

It would be less expensive if they actually maintained the infrastructure instead of letting it rot.

Landlords, who are husband and wife, also own an inspection company. The wife submitted the inspection and application under her maiden name to hide the huge conflict of interest. A representative of Baltimore City DHCD said there was no conflict, just "an example of entrepreneurship."

GTFOH.

Just as everything is getting more expensive, Microsoft plans to pull support for Windows 10 on Oct. 14, 2025.

The good news: There are free alternatives. Our digital security team talks through some options.
Warning: Time to move away from Windows 10
With Windows dropping support for Windows 10, you’ll need to upgrade — or consider another operating system entirely!

The way people display it everywhere makes me cringe. Even “liberal” politicians wear it on ties, scarves, on socks…

It’s disgusting.

It's a pretty big deal that the NYC Bar Association--one of the most prominent and respected bar associations in the country--is accusing the President of ordering the "unlawful summary execution," i.e. murder--of civilians in violation of US and international law. www.nycbar.org/press-releas...

NEW: After paying for hotel rooms to shelter homeless people, Seattle deliberately left them vacant.

By the end of 2024, taxpayers were spending $4,200 a month per empty room at a time when thousands of residents were without a roof over their heads.
Seattle Spent Millions on Hotel Rooms to Shelter Unhoused People. Then It Stopped Filling Them.
Early last year, the city signed a $2.7 million lease extension to continue using a hotel’s rooms as shelter space. Yet despite committing to pay the rent, the city stopped sending people there.

ICE is hog tying protesters in Portland and removing them on Dollies.

This is dangerous and could cause serious injury.

The Department of Homeland Security thinks it’s a joke.

They’ve shared this video with the tagline “Refuse to Walk? We’ll give you a ride”.

Stay strong Portland.

I filed a 311 this morning and just now they left a yellow tag on my door saying there was no problem found.

Sigh.

We’re also having a water issue on my side of the block. Water is coming from somewhere east of us, making all of our sump pumps work overtime to get rid of the water. Thankfully my neighbor said he’d call the city.
