Had 6 months of post-viral hell after glandular fever when I was 17, and had the same happen after a bout of COVID, and I had this knot in my stomach of "here we go again, but it mightn't go away this time..." Horrendous.

4 yrs ago today, a family member managed a truly spectacular own goal, splintered his domestic bliss, & in the process, united the world for a day.

On popular request, I shall now recreate the livetweet thread from that day

So gather around children, for this is the tale of The Rice Truck Saga

Mom however is 100% done, so we end our live report this AM with these final images for you, of a man standing on his verandah, surrounded by 23 sacks of rice, afraid to open his own front door.

Thank you for sharing our family journey through the saga of my BIL and his rice.

I write full time largely because of one thread about getting high with the Irish president. As cringe as it is to admit, my entire life has been massively enhanced by Twitter and ketamine over precisely the same time that those two things have proven less beneficial for Elon Musk.

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

Also, surely the political party wouldn't be the vegetables, in that analogy - they'd be the other diners. The vegetables are the party's policies.

Everyone in the UK that has had to use this service should be phoning up their MP office to demand an explanation why a law set out (OSA) did not have adequate protections of said data.

NEW: breach of Discord age verification data.

Including some users passports & DLs

Age verification is a badly implemented data grab wrapped in a moral panic.

Mark my words, as age verification mandates expand, we'll end up more surveilled and less secure. 1/

As the media lionises Hickey for his few days in detention, remember most ordinary political prisoners in Iran don't come out of jail to glory and Patreon subs, they come out to a ruined future, if they are lucky enough to come out in one piece.

The irish presidential election is basically now between "dog fighting transphobe" and "woman who destroys children in soccer matches"

I will be voting for Connoly in support of her war on childrens egos.

Not going to share 'grift' but Heather Humphreys has just said that I'm a man and the gender recognition act should be changed. Please do not vote for or give a preference for her. Having someone as president who thinks this way would be absolutely awful for minorities #SpeirGorm

And it was as bad, and worse, in the US. There was a whole movement against JFK's candidacy on the grounds that he wasn't a "real American" by virtue of being an Irish Catholic. That his allegiance was to the Pope.

Is there a barrel bottom that hasn’t been scraped yet in the determined drive to attack the character and professionalism of the Left candidate who’s doing well in polls? Of course Catherine Connolly BL acted for clients on a normal disinterested basis!

the most delightful version of logging on to see what news you've missed
Dr Ramsdell, whose phone had been on airplane mode when the Nobel committee tried to call him, told the BBC's Newshour Programme that his first response when his wife said, "You've won the Nobel prize" was: "I did not."

To which Ms O'Neill replied that she had 200 text messages that suggested he had.
