It's a high bar, but this from @radleybalko.bsky.social might be one of the most fucked up things I've read in the new Trump era. For context, this TX lawyer had just had an informal conversation with a family caught up in ICE raids.

Seriously. Read this. radleybalko.substack.com/p/the-courag...

Damn. More of this energy from Democrats in Congress, please
On April 24, ICE agents broke into a home of a family of US citizens in Oklahoma. The family repeatedly said we are citizens, you have the wrong people. ICE terrorized the family, ripped apart the house.

It's not "other people" that this is happening to. It's us. Open your eyes. Wake the hell up.

This. This is the thing I don't get about the decisionmaking by some of these biglaw firms.

Forget the morality or principle of the thing, they obviously had tossed that aside. But if your concern is for losing clients, how do clients retain lawyers that didn't anticipate THIS?
I'm sorry but if you don't have enough fully functional neurons firing in your brain to have seen this coming from the beginning, I refuse to believe you can be trusted with any task or objective that requires more than a third-grade intellect.

The entire approach can be summed up as "my family could save tens of thousands of dollars a year by the one simple trick eliminating our food budget"

Sure, except for that pesky need to eat that's a great plan
what is fascinating to me is the number of people whose “knowledge” of government appears to just be an accumulation of cliches and stereotypes + an inchoate sense that if something is big and costly then it must necessarily be “wasteful”
Interesting piece which reveals a lot of the tech bro ignorance of government: DOGEr comes in, expects to find lots of inefficiency, is at least willing to acknowledge he was wrong unlike the hard core ideologues.

A+, no notes.

Nothing spurs a successful negotiation quite like demonstrating early on that any claim about how strongly you hold your positions is a bluff

Another AI sighting (citing) in the wild
RFK Jr's "MAHA" report is filled with references to studies that literally do not exist, or that completely misinterpret the studies' findings.

“We did not publish a paper.. on this topic with that co-author group, or with that title,” says one cited researcher.

The Trump administration’s “Make America Healthy Again” report misinterprets some studies and cites others that don’t exist, according to the listed authors.

friend of mine just sent me this, apparently someone is describing what those "receivers" are expected to do for gaza fundraiser accounts. they are wiring the funds in "rounds" under $1500 because there's a "problem" receiving a wire of more than $2000.

jesus christ.

Also, they never do try to run government like a business.

If they did, they'd shut down many red states for being an unprofitable drain on resources, sell California to Japan for a short-term profit bump, and merge the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming and Idaho into one state to streamline management.
Funny how Republicans want government run like a business, but in business, the first guy you get rid of is the one who complains constantly while never doing any work. Apparently that is the ideal elected official for them now.
