We're living through one of those rare historical periods: a revolution by the rich. Usually, the rich oppose revolution because they benefit from the status quo. But this is a period where they think they can benefit from radical change (see the fencing of the commons in 18th Century Britain).

Fair proxies for the left in its entirety:
- a person who says something goofy on social media
- a person who shoots at a political figure
- a theoretical person who does something goofy or bad

Not a fair proxy for the right:
- a GOP president who commands the loyalty of millions of Americans

They build a doomsday machine with no "off" switch. It was just waiting for the right demagogue to come along and tell them the lies they wanted to hear. The GOP doesn't have a Trump problem. It has a voter problem, created by the same people who now presume to tell Dems how to run our party.

I'm reminded that when he left office, Bill Clinton had the highest approval rating and net approval rating of any president, upon leaving office, in the post WW2 era.

40% of the voters are hardcore GOP. It's always been this way. Hoover caused the Great Depression and got 40% of the vote. 5 percent of the voters are hardcore leftists and maybe 1 in 5 will vote for the Dem. 55% of the country is moderate and the dem has to win at least 85% of the moderates to win.
