It is really really sinking in for me the degree to which LLMs are the ultimate expression of right wing anti-intellectualism. Its proponents are literally mocking the idea that anyone would ever want to learn anything, know anything, develop any actual skill, or have a thought of their own.

It took me a very long time to learn "do your best" does not mean "give 100% effort even at the expense of your physical or mental health" or "give A+ effort even when it is clearly not appreciated or valued". Sometimes doing your best is heating up a can of soup and going to bed early.

ICYMI: There’s a cloned CDC website being hosted by the Children’s Health Defence (an anti-vaxx NGO previously led by RFK Jr) publishing dangerous lies about vaccines and autisms.

It looks shockingly real, with the CDC logo and menu bars intact.

This dangerous information will cost lives:
CDC Clone Site, Rife with False Vaccine Claims, Hosted by Group Previously Led by HHS Secretary
A CDC clone site with false vaccine claims is hosted by an NGO once led by the current HHS Secretary. With CDC logos, real social media links, and a near-identical design, it may violate federal laws.

Hey Massachusetts--get on the phone.
Heads up, Massachusetts, we've got an M4L style bill to get our representatives to oppose early and loudly.

Screenshots from how I found out about this and the poster.

The Huntington emailed today they have little structural damage. So much had been lost but at least those collections are safe. Octavia Butler's papers are there.

It’s the 50th anniversary of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act

“As recently as 1974, banks were legally allowed to deny women credit or charge them higher interest if they failed to get a male cosigner”

“women couldn’t open bank accounts on their own until the 1960s”
50 Years Ago, Women Won Equal Access to Credit
Not that long ago, banks were requiring male cosigners. Equal access to credit helped women build financial independence.

Digital archivist here: we constantly have to explain to every faculty member proposing digital projects that said project is more like a puppy than a book--it requires constant care and attention right up until the day it dies. In other words: someone has to pay for every minute it remains standing
