I'll just say it again: my localization bread and butter might be J>E, but I see a lot of big C>E and K>E localizations make the sort of rookie mistakes that were rampant in my field 25 years ago. If you ever want a ringer to come in, clean up your dialogue, and maybe mentor your team, call me. 🤙

Last RPG Review of the year.
Today we're delving into the world of Delta Green, a grim Lovecraftian horror game about conspiracies, investigation, trauma, isolation, and fear.

David Jara Soto's 2021 dissertation deals with the fact that a RPG's *paratexts* -- any material surrounding the "main" text -- are crucial to our interpretation of it.

In other words, we're often reading frames through frames within other frames, also modeling the *essence* of the medium itself.
Ok, this is @friede.bsky.social's fault. She raised the question of *how* people analyze RPG texts, and that is a BIG, HAIRY QUESTION, and it got me thinking.

I'm not ready to take a tilt at it yet, but that's because it turns out there are a lot of things I do *before* I read an RPG. A lot.

I think it's very cool :)

for the love of god, AI systems aren't "just tools that are neither good nor evil in and of themselves". AI systems *are* tools of capitalism. they exist as tools of capitalism. there is no AI system "in and of itself" outside of capitalism

After extensive research, turns out a 22-year-old free software is the solution for my project management needs.

GanttProject. Bare bones, but no subscription, no AI BS, straight to the point, on device.

i wonder if anyone is going to ask the other question: why are kids confiding in AI how they feel about *insert mental health topic* and not confiding in a real person? or are we just going to use this as another “AI bad” thing and move on?

getting rid of AI won’t fix the problems that got us here

Wild that in 1890 we had a robust system of railroads, street railroads & trolleys that reached deep into very rural areas from the Mississippi to the Atlantic & everyone used it all the time. I wonder what industry invested HEAVILY in dismantling such a massive & effective infrastructure? Mr. Ford?
My whole life we’ve been told that The US is simply too big to have high speed rail

GOOD NEWS! Researchers have shown Alzheimer’s disease can be REVERSED- not just prevented. Using a potent neuroprotective compound called P7C3-A20, they found RESTORING balance to a central cellular energy molecule (NAD+) not only PREVENTED disease features but REVERSED them, EVEN at late stages.

At a certain point, some stuff just can't be meaningfully improved. Fridges and washing machines do what they're supposed to. Shoving computers into them is scraping at fractional, hollow gains. Meanwhile, the global south is looted for minerals and our landfills overflow, and we're still unhappy!
