After a bird flu outbreak tore through Midwestern barns, killing millions of chickens and spiking egg prices, the federal government didn’t investigate if the virus was airborne.

So ProPublica did.

Absolutely terrifying reporting from @natlash.bsky.social:

What the U.S. Government Is Dismissing That Could Seed a Bird Flu Pandemic
Egg producers suspect bird flu is traveling through the air. After a disastrous Midwestern outbreak early this year, we tested that theory and found that where the wind blew, the virus followed. Vacci...

Today's updated outlook.

Widepsread thunderstorms likely for Alberta with the possibilty of severe, there is also a funnel cloud risk for southern Alberta into southwestern Sask.

Smoke remains an issue for the northern prairies.

Today’s updated outlook.

Not much going on today with non-severe thundershowers in the north possible.

Also, very low chance of an isolated storm along the foothills but it’s also not zero.

Edmonton friends, if you haven’t yet been to Tulip (Otto’s lunchtime incarnation) run don’t walk. I popped in today and got an unbelievably tasty Denver Strata. Think savoury bread pudding topped with Hollandaise. It’s just about too good for words.

Friday's thunderstorm outlook.

To note, that circle around Edmonton indicates funnel cloud potential (usually of the cold core variety), not tornado potential.

The zebra jumping spider.

Commonly found in urban areas such as gardens, around buildings and including in your house, they are tiny but mighty.

They don’t spin webs but can jump about 10cm.

They are highly unlikely to bite and are not aggressive (unless they feel threatened).

June is the start of baby season! In Alberta, most females will have given birth by the end of June, but many give birth earlier, especially warm seasons (like this year!) - anyone with bats in buildings should leave them be until September if any specific management is planned. 🦇
🦇 June is here!

Female bats usually give birth to a single baby, called a pup, which they feed on their milk. Young bats are very small (less than an inch) and pink with little to no fur. They will soon grow a thin, slightly grey fur.
