Yup. IMO it's more accurate to say that everything should serve a purpose. Whether it furthers the plot, develops a character, gives the audience a breather, or whatever, it should do something.
If you can't figure out what something contributes to the story, you might consider taking it out.

I am not a fan of "remove anything that doesn't further the plot" because sometimes you just need to have the characters take a break to have dinner and talk

Okay, new Krait build is working well. Turns out the oversized power plant on that thing means that you can run it with low emissions for lower heat.
Combined that with 5 efficient PAs, and it seems to run cool enough to fire them freely without worrying about overheating.

At one point in Max Payne 1, if you open a door but don't step out, you hear two enemies chatting.

Back home from exploration.
Now that I've had more time to digest, I feel like the icourier is a bit limited for exploration, mostly because of its small fuel tank and lack of sco. It's a dream to land though. Basically the opposite problem as the Caspian.
The Mandalay still feels best overall.

Found a metal-rich planet with 3 signals.
But it was 350k ls away, and I don't have SCO optimization. So it's a bit of a trip.
When I get there, the entire planet is dark because it's so far away from its sun.

Took the icourier out for what'll probably be a short trip. Depends on whether new community goals show up soon or not.
I'm much happier with this ship size. While I have to approach the planet a bit more slowly, it feels a lot better.

Funny animal videos no longer being trustworthy just fucking sucks all around. I love the wonder of animal behavior and what it says about the experience of being alive. It's because it happened in reality that it's so fun. It's not fun if it was just made up. There's no wonder there.

This is great because I hear that when commissioning artists, they also appreciate it when you can do this to better communicate what you want from them.

Huh, those weird spray and pray multicannons from the CG are quite good on the alliance crusader. It has exactly two medium points for them.
It's nice how it has decent firepower for when you can't use the cannons.

OK, finished building that exploration icourier. It has about a 60ly jump range, but the nicer thing about it is that it runs pretty cold, so you can hit jump pretty soon after you start scooping.
