not to forget my current lab members! It seems like most of them are not on Bluesky just yet.

I have the best lab ever! Today I thought we "just" celebrate the acceptance of @isabellavoelkl.bsky.social paper (more to come in due time...). But my lab surprised me with a 10 year birthday party! And an amazing video from former lab members!
Cheese cake with candles and a 10 are out of blueberries.

Congratulations, Raquel and the Wysocka lab! Very cool story! Hope to catch up soon!

Today in @nature.com, we present our work leveraging functional genomics and human blastoids to uncover a human-specific mechanism in preimplantation development driven by the endogenous retrovirus HERVK.
Special thanks to the reviewers whose comments improved our manuscript a lot! rdcu.be/eI3tD

Really excited to share our latest work led by @mattiaubertini.bsky.social and @nesslfy.bsky.social: we report that cohesin loop extrusion creates rare but long-lived encounters between genomic sequences which underlie efficient enhancer-promoter communication.

Here is to the hope that dies last!

Oh, look! What a special treat! One whole day without meetings! Not a single one in sight. i might even get around to get something done today.

I would love to hear ideas. We preprint everything, chose many preprints to discuss in our journal club, but ultimately are bound by funders to demonstrate productivity that often involves the full peer review journal model.

Im Austria, the main funding body does not have deadlines for its regular project grants for longer than I run my lab. I am quite torn on it since having a deadline also gives you an end point and date to work towards.

Our work on the function of miR-51/miR-100 is out! miR-100 is widely conserved across eumetazoans but its function has been mysterious. Emilio Santillán found in worms it regulates signaling and extracellular matrix genes, some of which seem to be conserved targets! www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

A microRNA that arose at the origin of eumetazoans regulates cell adhesion and signaling in C. elegans through conserved targets.
