(sigh) Yeah, that's America for you... or at least a certain version of it.

I prefer the diverse, inclusive, decent one.

As a Shakespeare nerd, I love this. And also because it so meets the moment.

Bravo, Sir Ian.
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

"Restrictions are all we have until we get the majority." Gospel right there, for the "why bother voting" crowd and the "DO SOMETHING!" screamers who forgot basic civics.

If you want good things to get done in govt., you have to elect a party MAJORITY that can do it.
Here’s the list of demands Dems are seeming to agree on to fund the govt. Dems don’t have the power to defund ICE b/c it’s funded by the Big Ugly Bill. I agree ICE can’t be reformed & must be abolished, but restrictions are all we have until we get the majority. Senator Chris Murphy explains below.
Dems coalescing around 5 restrictions on ICE, I'm told:

DHS required to cooperate with state probes (big)
CBP stays at border
warrants for arrests
IDs, bodycams
ICE out of churches, schools

"That package unites a lot of Dems," Sen Chris Murphy tells me on the pod:

This needs to go viral.

Abolish ICE, prosecute the murderers, and haul Bovino, Noem, Stephen Miller, and whoever else set this system of state terror in motion into criminal court as well.

No more terrorizing U.S. citizens and our immigrant neighbors. No more.
Wow! This read-along of the NYT moment-by-moment leading to the murder of Alex Pretti should shake everyone awake. He was a Good Samaritan.

Agents fired at least ten shots in roughly five seconds. DHS and Pam Bondi claim Pretti approached them armed and intent on a “massacre.”

Wait...I thought it was the "woke" who wanted to "erase history" (by taking down statues of Confederate traitors/renaming military bases for someone else).

Clearly, I was misinformed... (h/t to Humphrey Bogart, "Casablanca")
It boils down to this: They want the founding without the violence that made it possible.

THIS.

Train your (metaphorical) fire on the right targets, folks.
FYI: Dems in the senate can't defund ICE. ICE is funded by the Big Ugly Bill. Shutting down DHS on this vote wouldn't touch ICE, but it would shut down FEMA, TSA, Coast Guard, etc. Shutting down ICE requires taking back Congress in the midterms. Dismantling DHS requires the White House in 2028.

God bless my hometown!
Breaking: jury finds Chicago resident Juan Espinoza Martinez NOT GUILTY of placing a hit on Border Patrol Chief Greg Bovino.
We've got a verdict in this case, in which feds accused a Chicago resident of murder-for-hire, allegedly for a $10K hit on Border Patrol Chief Greg Bovino.

Attorneys coming in now, jurors haven't returned to the courtroom.
January 22, 2026 at 10:30 PM
This fiction was not only used to prosecute Martinez, but it was part of a broader narrative the regime wished to create. This was used by DHS and individual agents to justify escalation and use of tear gas against residents, particularly in Little Village.

Just one example from CBP reports:

Eight Republican electeds.

That's all it would take.

Eight.

Let that sink in the next time you're wondering who to blame the most.
Four GOP Senators.

At most four Repubs in the House.

Together they could stop nearly all the mad-king's rampages. They would be known to history as Profiles in Courage. They might/would lose the next election. But people have sacrificed a lot more, for a lot less.
I can't repeat this enough.

Doing my bit. (For all those who scream "DO SOMETHING!!!" at the Dems in DC... take note, maybe?)

Oh, and once again, Comb-over Caligula is a &$@*#! liar.
Democrats are rightly livid about yet another illegal, terroristic Republican war of choice

And they’re shouting it from the rafters.

Do your fucking part and amplify the shit out of Dem statements. Show that the country is against Republican wars.

Here’s a list of Dems.

As an editor (fiction, not news stories), I approve this message.

And as a writer, I hugely appreciate *my* editors!
Editors have a really hard job, and the good ones can make something unreadable readable, and the great ones can make something unreadable into something good. But they're basically invisible, until someone tries to write without one.
