Barristers aren’t allowed to refuse to represent people…the cab-rank rule is a pretty well known aspect of the Irish legal system. This is such a non-story.

Is there a barrel bottom that hasn’t been scraped yet in the determined drive to attack the character and professionalism of the Left candidate who’s doing well in polls? Of course Catherine Connolly BL acted for clients on a normal disinterested basis!

If you ring-fenced the money, you'd be able to fix every road/cycle path/footpath in the country.

Every level crossing and red light/Luas interaction in the country should be have one of these.

I actually think every single yellow box and set of traffic lights should have camera enforcement (considering the Gardaí don't seem to be bothered).

This is a big step and badly needed at level crossings. We're still waiting for the Gardaí and the NTA to install red-light cameras at junctions that were promised early this year.

Gavin has shown himself unfit to be President. This is why we should let our current President take a third term, despite his age. Who cares what the constitution says.

I learned about Sports Thumb Jim Gavin dropping out of the Irish Presidential election from @tupped.bsky.social's The Gist this morning and I owe it to you to share this relevant passage, which got my week off to a great start:
The Long Game
Imagine you are a tenant, in the worst financial crash in living memory, and you discover that over three thousand of your very precious and irreplaceable euros have been sent by your idiot bank to your previous landlord.
And then he won't give them back. Not then, but also, not later either.
He just keeps the money, because that is how Irish private landlords behave. You pay a deposit to a landlord and then they try anything on to refuse to give it back.
Now imagine you spend the next 16 years seething every time that landlord appears on the
TV, being fêted for his sporting triumphs, receiving state appointments and still never giving you your money.
And now, and I invite you to imagine this in full 8k Hi-Def Surround Sound, imagine seeing that guy announce he was running to be President and realising you were going to tell your story and End It.

Back to the actual and current Presidential candidates -with all the Jim Gavin shenanigans of the last 24 hours it may have not grabbed people’s attention that Heather Humphreys just threw trans people under the bus in response to a Grift dot ie reporters question! So there’s that! #aras25 #speirgorm

Dept of Transport won't fund capacity study for Rosslare-Dublin rail despite population growth. Double tracking, dynamic loops & extra platform could help without costly Bray Head tunnel. Thanks to TDs @rodericogorman.bsky.social, Whitmore & Lawlor for support. NTA response attached. Plans due 2026:
SOUTH EAST ON TRACK
I refer to the matter you raised in Parliamentary Question No. 190 of 25 September last, which has been referred to the National Transport Authority (NTA) for reply.
We note that the Minister provided a substantive response to this Parliamentary Question. To add to the Minister's response, the NTA's Greater Dublin Area Transport Strategy 2022-2042, adopted in 2023, includes a recommendation to extend the DART service to Wicklow Town. It is intended to provide this extension initially through the use of battery-electric DART carriages, which will be able to operate using the overhead electrification as far as Greystones and can then operate under battery power between Greystones and Wicklow larnód Eireann, in collaboration with the NTA, is currently working on the development of design proposals for the railway section between Greystones and Wicklow. While it had been intended to undertake a public consultation in relation to the emerging proposals, it now appears possible to deliver these enhancements largely within the footprint of the current railway line. Accordingly, the focus is now on developing those designs and it is currently anticipated that a planning application will be made to Wicklow County Council in early 2026 for the necessary planning consent to develop the project. In respect of the DART+ Coastal South, this project aims to improve DART services on the existing DART line south of Dublin City, with the current focus on enhancing services between Bray and Greystones. Design work is ongoing to increase the number of trains per hour between Bray and Greystones from 2 to 3. larnród Éireann is currently finalising the development and evaluation of potential solutions to enhance capacity in the line with the aim of identifying an emerging preferred option (EPO). The identified EPO will be subject of a non-statutory public consultation in the coming months.

NTA Chief Executive (Interim).

This is causing a lot of confusion so there's a handy mnemonic you can use:

If your Gavin be gruesome, you'll find he's a Newsom.
If your rent he be havin', you've got a Jim Gavin.

Catching up on #TWIP #Áras25 debate. JG is wholly unqualified to be Uachtarán and HH is an establishment candidate who will probably not make a show of us but will not the be the voice of decency and truth we need. CC is an intelligent, qualified, and decent candidate. I hope she wins.

To be clear, I dont think someone's life should be ended by a criminal conviction. If people serve their time and are rehabilitated, society benefits from their inclusion. Of course there are caveats concerning victims of crimes and how they might feel living in a community with those who hurt them
