I like to walk in cities.

Walking mostly Seattle WA, U.S.

Unfortunately, not everyone is on board with this vision. We lost about $2,000 in donations because we took a strong stand for an affordable and walkable city this year. If you agree it was the right thing to do, please donate if you can — it will be matched today! seattlegreenways.org/donate
I still get questions/concerns about why should transportation advocates get involved in land use planning: "Isn't advocating for bike lanes and safe pedestrian streets hard enough without adding in another controversial issue?"

But the two are fundamentally, critically, inseparable.
Tell @council.seattle.gov let's make Seattle walkable and affordable by:
1) Legalizing corner stores
2) Expanding neighborhood centers
3) Adding flexibility in car parking regulations
4) Encouraging stacked flats
5) Supporting social housing

Take action today!

Our big trees are dying. Three died this year within a block, and others previously. We can't save every tree, but should be planning our city for more people and greener streets, and our urban canopy for climate resilience and reducing heat islands. And stopping the things we know cause warming.

Candidates won't be the only things on the ballots that arrive in Seattle this week.

Proposition 1 to renew the Democracy Vouchers program is also on the ballot.

It's a big deal but flying under the radar, so please spread the word!
Seattle's Democracy Vouchers are on the August ballot!

Proposition 1 would renew funding for the 1st system in the U.S. that gives residents public money to support local candidates of their choice.

An advocate and professor who has studied the program help us understand what's at stake.

I remember mapping shooting incidents some years ago in Belltown. They were nightlife related, but actually took place in public parking lots. Bouncers/security kept guns out of bars but patrons retrieved them from their cars to continue their grievances.
The proposal, to be clear, will regulate late-night businesses by requiring a permit and security guards. It's not a panacea, despite the aggressive self-back-patting the city council is engaging in at this moment.

Great turnout at Seattle Center, beautiful day.

Our Mayor and Council approved violent means of suppressing protests. Now Westlake Park is being redesigned without public input. Will further suppression be built in?

I've been noticing a breakdown of the public social contract, similar to what happened during the pandemic but with a lot more people out and interacting. 🧵

So proud of our Fremont Neighborhood Council. New people, new mood, small but growing.

I wonder if the Texas Killer Bees strategy of the 1970s would work for the U.S. senate now? Honestly asking, I don't know.

We might get rain/snow and freeze overnight so I just salted the sidewalks I'm responsible for. Corner lot, long sidewalk plus curb ramps. I'm an old bird I but also shovel them when needed. Hit or miss as to who else will. Dangerous transportation inequity.

The double standard in how we handle sidewalks vs. streets, one being considered a public responsibility and the other a private, has got to be the single most important one preventing the U.S. from being walkable, IMO.

Having lived elsewhere, I’ll never take for granted how uncomplicated it is to vote here in Washington! Love taking our ballots to the drop box. Vote for housing with Prop 1A and to fund schools!

I’ve had a number of US friends & collectors reach out to me, as they are so scared by the Trump/Heritage Council fascist regime.

‘What can we do?’ they ask me. I think it’s because I often right about human rights, protest & the Holocaust.

So here are my suggestions.

And again MORE trash from Bruce Harrell et al.

Fight back against this crony capitalist effort to defeat Prop 1A. We already voted to approve social housing. Now vote to approve the funding source that will actually make it happen. Vote Yes to Prop 1A.

Vote - Again! Prop 1A.
4 days left!
I am so sick of finding Bruce Harrell's trash in my mailbox.

What they had already heard:

More housing for more neighbors
More wonderful walkable neighborhoods
More Neighborhood Centers
More Regional and Urban Centers
More housing further back from arterials

How many times must we repeat ourselves?

Quoting Moore: "And what troubles me is that when it became clear that there was less buy-in from the people that are going to live with this development on the ground..."

They aren't living with "development". They are living with neighbors.
Housing advocates outnumbered opponents by a margin of 89 to 75 during a 5-hour public hearing on the One Seattle growth plan this week. Nevertheless, several councilmembers made it clear that they sided with slow-growth advocates.
