We had years of debate about whether Trump's movement was a fascist one - I never expected them to openly identify themselves with historical fascism.

From Donald Trump's Roundtable on Antifa just now —
"Antifa has been around in various iterations for almost 100 years in some instances, going back to the Weimar Republic in Germany."

twice a year the entire U.S. press becomes a marketing extension of a single billionaire-owned retailer, and nobody in any position of editorial power thinks it's weird or gross

If Jilly Cooper and Terry Pratchett aren't your "people i would have dinner with" guests then you're playing that game wrong.

GNU Jilly Cooper. Jilly and dad were friends and the only person I’ve known to call him ‘Tel’. Hope they’re both having a big drink somewhere.

This is like those weirdo fascists who love Lord of the Rings. Read those books again because I think you might have missed something!

Kemi Badenoch claiming Terry Pratchett as her favourite author is wild

Exactly the same as Kent, then.

Yeah the "woke liberal elite Jews that believe in open borders" is Great Replacement Theory boilerplate. The Jews are doing mass immigration to destroy the white race, bla bla bla.

A traveler from an antique land--great guy--said to me with tears in his eyes "Sir, two vast and trunkless legs of stone stand in the desert." And I said wow, that's really something. But we'll be building a big beautiful statue to my hubris and it will stand for eternity

#Sukkot begins at sunset: a Jewish festival that honours resilience, gratitude & togetherness.
It's traditional to build temporary shelters & to hang fruits from the roof at #harvest time.
The Centre wish 'Chag Sameach' to all those celebrating.

One reassuring thing about Robinson is that he has the political instincts and tact of a drunk rhinoceros. He blunders endlessly on attacking any and all possible allies, committed only to grabbing as much cash as he can from his most gullible followers. He really is just a stupid thug.

This "alas this institution if failing to uphold democracy" thing pisses me off. No, it is succeeding at destroying it, entirely intentionally, because the institution has been captured. Live in the real world ffs.

It's so obvious that this court chooses an outcomes and reasons baxk to find a legal pretext. Any pretence of "balls and strikes" is long dead. I wish they'd just admit -" the Supreme Court is legislating from the bench to entrench deeply unpopular Christian nationalist dogma"

I think too far north. Good picking of blackberries and some wild apples and such but that's about it locally I think.

I think it'll be a lot like Trump - not focused or competent enough to pass much effective legislation, but very much able to be a wrecking ball towards policies and institutions that will take a generation to rebuild - and entirely able and eager to enact persecution on random immigrants.

Are you "saving Western Civilization" or do you make YouTube videos about how there's too many gay people in video games now? Be for real.

The thing about these masculinity grifters is the comical disconnect between rhetoric and reality. The "legacy" will end up being a drop shipping business with a squarespace website or something. Not exactly Charlemagne.

After 14 years of Conservative government we had "ever more socialism"?

Watched this tonight. Timely, warm, and interested in real people, real conversations and real lives. It also explores some of the real friction of being trans in America without flinching.

For anyone who's wondering about this, particularly in the UK: yes, do email or message your Jewish friends with a word of support. It makes a huge amount of difference.
