authors you have the chance to do the funniest thing right now
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

"it is forcing me to be guarded when I should be wowed"

This.

This right here.

I'm so, SO tired of having to scrutinize any piece of art that even remotely resembles genAI slop just to determine whether or not it's worth a second thought or any admiration.
Why am I so against generative AI in games?

Because I simply do not want my initial reaction to art to be one of suspicion and scrutiny, AI slop is fundamentally damaging my relationship to art and artistry, and I am deeply resentful that it is forcing me to be guarded when I should be wowed.

I'm still loving my Critical Role tarot deck. Today, I got Kima and Alura in the same spread, which I'm taking as a good sign, even though I don't really consider myself a believer

I don't usually wear skirts, but I'm seriously tempted to pick one of these skirts up just for the pockets
@mayakern.com is a wizard of skirts and pockets, and should be thanked for her service at every opportunity!
So glad that @seananmcguire.bsky.social pointed at the creator!

In regards to the Visa/Mastercard situation, what if we all just start using cash as much as possible? While I know it's not possible for everything, a sudden decrease in the fees they get from in-store purchases would send a message

I hope this works! I wouldn't be surprised if it gets blocked somehow, though
BREAKING: We just subpoenaed the Epstein files.

As a survivor of sexual assault, I know the pain & trauma survivors carry. This subpoena is a massive victory for every survivor who has ever been silenced, dismissed, or harmed.

Bondi must release the files immediately. We demand accountability.

do you ever stare at the ceiling and think about how the worldwide scientific establishment did the impossible and created a COVID vaccine in under a year and the response of the general public has been to go on an unstoppable rampage to destroy science and scientists

This isn’t the female gaze. This is the male gaze. It’s men who are obsessed with the physicality of other men. Women, in the main, would much rather see a man who looks like he’d make himself a stack of buttered toast and let you steal a slice

My sister, who doesn't follow me on here, is playing Hades for the first time and she just texted me about how she wants to do a thing, but believes that she probably can't and I'm just chewing on the walls over here to keep myself from spoiling that she can, in fact, DO THE THING!

Just thinking about how I tried marmalade for the first time while visiting England years ago and loved it, but when I bought some after returning to the US I ended up not liking it because it was soooo much sweeter than what I tried in England

Looks like the Lagoon zoo is finally closing! Here's hoping those poor animals all end up in better places where they have plenty of room to move and are well taken care of

Curse you, nearly 100 year old spoilers!

I can't believe I forgot that the intros to old classic books tend to assume that you've already read the book and made the mistake of starting to read the intro to The Great Gatsby which I haven't read before.

If Speaker Mike Johnson is serious about opposing Putin, then he should move to impeach Trump and Vance, and I don't care that that would make him president. I doubt he has the guts or support to make that happen, though

That awkward moment when you DNF a romance novel because of how violent the female lead is towards the male lead. I guess that's just a trope that I have low tolerance for. If it's wrong when a man does it to a woman, then it's always wrong regardless of the gender of the victim and perpetrator

Reminder: They're trying to demoralize you, and they're doing a great job of it. Part of resisting is making time for joy despite the attempts to make you feel this is not the time for it. Love your people. Dig the art that speaks to you. Go to the places where life flows into you. You deserve joy.

As a blue dot in a red state, hearing about the possibility of California leaving the US has moved it up quite a bit in the list of states I'd like to move to. I was leaning towards Maryland for climate change reasons, but moving to CA may allow me to leave the US without dealing with immigration...

I have a phone screen for a position that I'm excited for later today, but I'm honestly annoyed about getting this excited about it because odds are good I'm NOT going to make to the next round let alone get this position. This is a recipe for heartbreak, and I hate it #jobhunting
