So we need the birth rates of the early 19th century industrial revolution, but the crime rate of modern Japan. And somehow live in a city but not be gay or born outside of the US. God this is getting complicated.

Because it feels relevant as we continue to evaluate the media and our representatives’ statements, my favorite way to identify the active vs. passive voice.
A post by Rebecca Johnson:
“I finally learned how to teach my guys to ID the passive voice. If you can insert "by zombies" after the verb, you have passive voice.”

A tumblr respond from mightymur:
“The final, brilliant word on passive voice.
"She was killed [by zombies.]"<--passive
"Zombies killed [by zombies] her." <-- active”

The government shutdown interrupted CDC's disease updates, so Team Force of Infection spent our Saturday going to the websites of all 50 health departments to check on Covid-19, flu and RSV. caitlinrivers.substack.com/p/cdc-data-i...

Martinique's Anoles (Anolis roquet) are native to (and only found on) the island of Martinique. Here's one enjoying a snack.

It took multiple attempts over several nights, but yesterday I finally got a decent image of Messier 31, the famous Andromeda Galaxy with my little Seestar S30, capturing almost all of the galaxy’s disk #astronomy #astrophotography #galaxies
The Andromeda galaxy was once thought to be a colossal nebula within our own galaxy, but is in actuality a galaxy as large if not larger than our own Milky Way, over two million light years distant. The galaxy’s disk is oval shaped in this view, seemingly in a field of stars from our own galaxy. Of course, those stars are far closer. Also visible are two satellite galaxies, M110 on the left edge of the image and M32, near the upper right of the main galaxy’s disk.

Your wish is my command - the super ensemble viewer is back online! Just go to the "superensemble" tab for any storm that has it.

The static images are back for most plots - I'll add the interactive viewer and a few other plots in the coming days.

Invest #94L is expected to intensify as it passes over the Bahamas, then the exact track is extremely challenging to predict -- it's possible it and TS #Humberto will influence each others' tracks in a process commonly called the "Fujiwhara effect".

An exceedingly complex forecast lies ahead for #Humberto and #94L. Of the latter, the Nat'l Hurricane Center warns that "the chances of wind, rainfall, and storm surge impacts for a portion of the southeast U.S. coast are increasing.” Full scoop here:
