Talking to myself about movies, politics, and the Arizona Diamondbacks
"Nothing by mouth" medical procedures scheduled for afternoons are bullshit. It's 6am and I'm thirsty!

I'm really glad to see someone like Kelly finally saying this. bsky.app/profile/atru...
Mark Kelly: "This president, when he says things like 'third world countries,' what is he really saying? I think what he's saying is he doesn't want brown people in our country. And that's disturbing. It's un-American."

Thinking about reddit critics complaining how "unrealistic" it is that the detective explains he knows the truth at the end of All Her Fault.

It's not meant to be realistic. The reveal is the cornerstone of the mystery genre. It's the catharsis for the audience. Like why do we tell fucking stories?

Some of what is going wrong with America is that it's so difficult to make it here that getting ahead you means you must be a Winner. By extension that means others must Lose. And that individual Winners/Losers paradigm invades everything from politics to alpha bros to pop culture fandom.
If you raise a generation in a culture where a lot of contemporary politics is signalling that there's is no sense of obligation to others and where individuals rarely face accountability for their narcissism, what did you *think* was going to happen?

The new service my apartment complex recently switched to for rent payment is now sending emails offering installment payment plans. The working class is cooked. Landlords are going to find ways to extract more of our money until there's nothing left.

Big movie day today as I near my goal of 52 films (average one a week). It's down from my former regular 70-80 films a year and I'll probably never cross 100 films in a year again like I did that year I had Movie Pass. Still, it feels good to get closer to what is my normal.

Brilliant idea. Court martial Mark Kelly. His presidential campaign ad will write itself.

I put up some Christmas decorations. I've very much struggled the past few years to do basic tasks so I'm proud of this bit of cheer.

I live in a top 10 major metropolitan area. That only one theater in the 1,000 square miles of this place is showing Wake Up Dead Man is a personal attack.

The funniest thing about the use of the lyric "anaconda" in the trailer for the new Anaconda movie is that in the song, "anaconda" is a euphemism for a penis.

In Monrovia, California, protesters are purchasing 17¢ ICE scrapers from Home Depot and immediately returning them to create long lines and slow down the entire store. Their aim is to disrupt sales and convey a message opposing ICE raids occurring in their neighborhood.

Please hear me when I say that

1) these anti-medical woo birth movements have been a primary feeder into anti-vaxx eugenic movements

2) they pre-date the age of social media

3) they exist because we have not addressed medical sexism and specifically obstetric violence
