I did not realize "the working people" means a police deparement that was exposed as regularly spending beyond this budget and has been responsible for TWO massive wrongful conviction payouts that equal 2 to 3 years of the Library budget.

Johnson vows to veto any budget that includes a property tax increase or makes cuts to the proposed $2.1 billion for the Chicago Police Department.

CONTEXT: No one has seriously proposed either.

I'd really love it if library and museum workers stopped going to afscme as the default union option when they uncritically represent corrections and parole officers. There's a lot of other options where we don't have to be in the cop supporting union 🙄

IMO, there are significant parallels between local encampment evictions & national deportations. among them who gets called a threat to public safety, who people with power think "deserve" to live on land. Who gets to be a member of the public?

"ICE" is often used as a catch-all in casual conversation, but CBP are the ones who've been tear gassing neighborhoods. They're the ones who shot a community member in Brighton Park. They're the ones who paraded around the Loop with a camera crew. Making ICE operate more like CBP could be horrific.
NBC has a story on this as well already, and they've got an indicative quote as to how things will go:

"'The mentality is CBP does what they’re told, and the administration thinks ICE isn’t getting the job done,;' one of the DHS officials said. 'So CBP will do it." www.nbcnews.com/politics/imm...

This is a cross section of activity (as OP notes, there is so, so much extending into the burbs that cannot fit on one map) but a good start in understanding the current situation
Its so hard to understand the scope and scale of the Federal attack on Chicago, led by ICE and CBP.

I put this map and table together, highlighting the most significant incidents from 9/19-10/25. The area shown is roughly 30 by 35 miles with incidents in all corners.
