this is only adjacent to the topic but I really hate the "this person will kick cancer's ass" style of discussion about illness. cancer is a tsunami. you might get lucky and survive it but you don't fight it. you get lucky enough to catch it early, and to have a cancer that we can treat, or not

I guess I just think anyone who says stuff like "The groupchats are the memetic upstream of mainstream opinion" should be stuffed in a locker and never let out.
These groupchats are only powerful because of the sheer concentration of wealth. Your crowd isn't brilliant or clever. You're just rich.

A small selection of some of my fave australian birds. In order: sulphur crested cockatoo, Willy wag-tail, gang gang cockatoo, superb fairy wren, magpie, black cocky, red wattlebird, tawny frogmouth, musk duck, kookaburra, black swan and eastern spinebill. Birds!

This thinking plagues software people. Extra dangerous when the 'first principles' guy has a whiteboard. Someone smart/thoughtful should interrupt with: 'How many mid-sized banks in your sample operated with one IT staffer?', it's an indictment on our sector that so few do.
The geniuses at DOGE are bringing us insights like "I'm not really sure why the tax agency for a country of 330 million people has a larger staff than a midsize bank"

Some ppl think this meme is dunking on lonely guys, but I guarantee: somewhere out there, there's a would-be incel who's starting to feel again bc they got got by this.
