As the backlash to generative AI in video games continues to pick up steam heading into 2026, it'll be fascinating to see what is considered "made with generative AI." Can a dev team say they're not using AI if they're writing design docs with Copilot or using chatGPT to make schedules and budgets?

My gameboy is one I ordered from Japan through one of those proxy services. It cost much less than it would have if I bought it locally. It was a fun project to tear it down, clean it up, and install an aftermarket backlit LCD screen. As a bonus it came with some Japanese kid's Pokémon yellow.
I say this with zero irony: if you are even tangentially a part of a retro video game community, it is your civic duty to push back against this company and shun anyone who doesn't. This is fascism tapping gently at the door and as soon as you let it in, it's going to invite its friends.

The correct term is "oligopoly". We have a bunch of these in Canada. Groceries, Telecom, News, Broadcast media... Probably a lot more that I'm forgetting. They don't openly collude, but it's *remarkable* how in lockstep they are with one another on anything that could be a material differentiator.
Every time a media merger happens, one word tends to be overused: monopoly.
I tried to explain how the Netflix/Warner Bros deal isn't a pure monopoly, but I don't think it'll get through to some folks.

I think I made a mistake 15 years ago when I decided to get into web development, based on how fun it was to write apps for rails and django. Now it seems like everyone is using cludged together node frameworks and implementing even the simplest feature is a slog through the turing tarpit.

I believe that child sex abusers, and those that defend them should be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. And that the law should be changed so that the penalty is being fed into a wood chipper.
