Middle-aged straight Texan man with a center-left economic policy background who also believes it's good to rethink historical race narratives, that trans folk deserve respect and guns do not have inherent rights. And no I will not call them "skeets"

WATCH: ‘Portland Frog’ pepper balled by ICE agents
daggaroosta.bsky.social
What's wild about this - beyond the unbelievably stupid soundbite - is that yes, flag burning has indeed "been through the courts" - the Supreme Court, twice. Both times it was affirmed as protected speech, with noted communist Antonin Scalia voting in affirmation both times
atrupar.com
Trump: "We took the freedom of speech away because that's been through the courts and the courts said you have freedom of speech, but what has happened is when they burn a flag it agitates and irritates crowds."

OK y'all, this is bait. DO NOT coordinate counter-rallies against these irrelevant chodes. The point is to give Trump video of leftists doing violent shit. Don't fall for it.

On Friday, Proud Boys leader Enrique Tarrio announced on his podcast that because "it seems like [the] Portland Police Bureau is not doing their job," "the Proud Boys will be coming back to Portland" in "one capacity or another."

We've seen him before. He's Chris Simms without the early playing time. Has the pedigree and recruiting ranking, looks the part, adequate game manager, but if you put too much on his shoulders he throws the ball to the wrong spot at the worst time

Indeed, and it's gonna leave a helluva mark on this child's musical tastes lol
daggaroosta.bsky.social
My wife and I (both 50+) had our first child this year, with the help of donor eggs and IVF, and we're finishing up a full home remodel.

A few years ago I was single, childless, unemployed, only asset a used car, on the edge of homelessness. Seasons change!

there's also the fake cop/real cop dynamic, ICE agents are mostly police department rejects (or else they'd have been cops already)
rincewind.run
... probably not the worst thing in the world if ICE decides to pick a fight with every local PD

even though most cops are likely very sympathetic to the admin the combination of "this is our turf" and "stop gassing me, fuckface" is a powerful one

Macron remarks are notable- some quotes: "We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks that are controlled either by large American entrepreneurs or large Chinese companies, whose interests are not at all the survival or proper functioning of our democracies."

President Macron: “Europeans, let's wake up!

We have been incredibly naive in entrusting our democratic space to social networks.”

Way too many Dem strategist types have been over-kvetching about this. Shutdowns have always been blamed on Republicans not because they've been the party out of power, but because *they're the party that WANTS to shut down the government*
lincolnproject.us
Oop. Turns out that voters blame the GOP more for the shutdown by an average of 12 pts.

I don't think we'll ever get another sentence which sums up everything the New York Times embodies quite like "Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians".
mattcameron.bsky.social
hey @nytimes.com: there is no counterpoint here. There are no credible legal experts who would EVER say that the US military has any right or authority to blow civilian craft out of the Caribbean and kill their crews from afar without any provocation. There is no other side to this question.
"Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians not directly taking part in hostilities, even if they are believed to be smuggling drugs."

I think a lot of people on this thread underestimate how much Saudi royals are really just a bunch of spoiled billionaire kids who want to mingle with global powers and own the objects of their childhood fascination.

Everything else at EA may suffer but the soccer game will be *lux*
daggaroosta.bsky.social
Maybe they're just trying to maximize their first two years. But they also might try a state-of-emergency coup in 2026. Toadies run every agency-with-guns and act like the nation is already under martial law.

I like you but saying this perspective is not serious is...well, not serious.
daggaroosta.bsky.social
He's given up his electoral positioning *voluntarily* to accomplish this and and that's a huge point of concern. He saw what brutality in immigration enforcement did to GOP numbers in 2018. He promised to lower prices, then raised huge tariffs. He's *not worried* about the 2026 election.
daggaroosta.bsky.social
His main goal appears to be to degrade democratic institutions permanently so they can be run corruptly or by zealous extremist allies or both. He's having more success with that than anyone imagined one year ago. No one's saying it's magic. It's authoritarianism.
daggaroosta.bsky.social
Media and Dems aside for a sec, this headline is also getting it wrong. Trump is succeeding at doing exactly what he wants, primarily by not giving a shit about these polls. Trying to re-frame this as "weak and failing" will ring falsely with most people.

So yeah, Jeffery Epstein was just another one of these weirdo sociopathic reactionary billionaires with a fetish for IDW bullshit, breaking laws with impunity, and "seeding the human race with his DNA". No wonder he and Elon were pals
jennburrill.bsky.social
If you haven't followed the New Mexico branch of the Epstein story closely ...

"Epstein hoped to seed the human race with his DNA by impregnating women at his ranch in New Mexico, one of his properties where young women, including minors, were allegedly abused"

@theguardian.com reported in 2019
daggaroosta.bsky.social
The failed justice side of this story is tragic. Four young teenage boys - 15, 16 years old - were accused of this crime and two of them spent years in jail after the cops extracted false confessions. There was never any evidence connecting them to the crime. Turns out it was a roving serial killer
daggaroosta.bsky.social
The clearest, most worrisome analogy - and certainly the one that inspires Bannon, Miller, etc. - is the fall of the Roman *Republic*. Already an empire but with checks and balances, Rome watched Caesar wipe out his political opposition and clear the way for centuries of unregulated despotic rule
daggaroosta.bsky.social
This chode's gun fell onto the ground *right next to the hand of the man he was arresting*, nothing could more clearly show that a) these thugs have no training at all and b) the arrestee was not posing a violent threat to anyone
daggaroosta.bsky.social
This story is important and should (but won't) be followed up on by the major news outlets.

IMO the lone wolf shooter violence we're seeing these days is more a function of online irony poisoning than politics. 100% of these folk have dark tendencies exacerbated and weaponized by Chan culture
