So we just murdered another 40 Venezuelans for a total of at least 140 or so.
This bit of news — at least 40 dead— appears around the 27th graf of the NYT story. Which is a really bizarre choice.

(And we find out a few grafs down that several US soldiers were injured)

Regime change is complicated, as we should have learned in 2002-03. @markhertling.bsky.social's cautionary essay at @thebulwark.com was published just hours before Trump & Co. showed they were not, it seems safe to say, students of history, law or chess. #Venezuela www.thebulwark.com/p/what-regim...
What ‘Regime Change’ in Venezuela Would Really Mean
It’s not clear the administration has settled on a goal, much less considered the consequences.

Trump announcing to the world that the US will only let a puppet take over Venezuela.
FOX & FRIENDS: What do you think is next for the Venezuelan people now that you have removed Maduro so he can face American justice?

TRUMP: Well, we're making that decision now. We can't take a chance on letting somebody else run it, just take over where he left off. So we're making that decision

Bigger than Teapot Dome in terms of scandals, but in the age of Trump, it doesn't even raise an eyebrow: Karen Budd-Falen, the No. 3 at the Interior Department, didn’t disclose a $3.5m water-rights contract between her husband and the developers of a Nevada mine approved by Interior.

I wish more politicians would abandon the miserable vision of austerity and meager expectations.
Mamdani: I have been told that this is the occasion to reset expectations, that I should use this opportunity to encourage the people of New York to ask for little and expect even less. I will do no such thing. The only expectation I seek to reset is that of small expectations.

In 2 days the ACA subsidies expire.

Millions of people will be forced to make a choice of whether they can afford healthcare coverage or go without.

Congress votes on Jan 6th to extend the ACA subsidies or let it crash and burn — potentially gutting our protections.

‘Nap’ comes from ‘nape,' which means “tablecloth.”

So a napkin is a little tablecloth.

America faced domestic fascists before and buried that history
Although thousands of Americans embraced fascist ideas during the interwar years, a new study examines why the US has had little appetite to remember that past.

So I hate to be That Guy, but we're entering into uncertain territory here with the Epstein Files, and it's more important than ever that we make sure we know all the facts before we blow things up.

I'm talking now about the "tips" that DOJ is now releasing. They sound super salacious and evil.

The other is @boltsmag.org (I can't mention one w/out mentioning the other).
