I'm in St. Louis, aka Saint Louis. From San Diego, love the Padres. Big fan of government transparency and accountability. Trying to live in the world and leave it better than I found it. Just a dude.

Selective transparency undermines public trust in government.
The St. Louis Development Corp. embargoes video recordings of development board meetings. SLDC typically waits until the 3rd business day after a meeting before making the video public.
Posting momentarily: the 12/16 #LCRAstl video!

I was booted out of the claustrophobic conf. room B a few minutes before the start of the 9.18.25 SLDC board meeting. I was babysat in room A by the VP for Incentives.
The SLDC directors last met in the main board room on 9.3.25.

I’ve been relocated to the board room 🤗
SLDC put me an ‘overflow’ room for this morning’s meeting. It’s next door to where the board is meeting.

It’s just me … and a SLDC staffer who’s moonlighting as my babysitter lol

They have a large board room that accommodates the public. You’ve probably been there before! But they didn’t use that one today

Clearly SLDC's leadership want to exclude the media and public from observing the actions of the organization up close.

And they are tying to roll back the ECOA equal credit opportunity act so discrimination would be easier when it comes to credit. It’s about making white christian males the only ones with power again.
A former immigration judge alleged to DOJ that Trump fired her bc of her sex & national origin

DOJ said equal employment opportunity laws don't supersede Trump's removal powers under Article II

this is literally a claim to constitutional power to discriminate

American conservatives have been fuming for decades because they've had to pretend this stuff isn't just rank imperialism, and it's finally broken. This is just naked now, without pretense.
Trump on Venezuela: "Getting land, oil rights, whatever we had -- they took it away because we had a president that maybe wasn't watching. But they're not gonna do that. We want it back. They took our oil rights. We had a lot of oil there. They threw our companies out. And we want it back."

Companies tied to investor Joey Chianese, of Virginia, own 150+ single-family homes across St. Louis. He sells them using a model much like rent-to-own, which leaves buyers without the protections afforded by mortgages or landlord-tenant laws. By @jacobbarker27.bsky.social. tinyurl.com/joeychianese
New contracts in St. Louis sell a 'false' dream of homeownership, critics say
Contracts that look like rent-to-own agreements leave buyers with high costs and facing eviction. "A model that is selling a dream that is known to be false."

Update from today's BOA:
Ald. Browning placed #BOAbb83 on the informal calendar.
At the Nov.18 HUDZ Committee hearing on BB 83, no one from SLDC's incentive division was present to explain how the bill diverts the sales tax revenue to #CortexTIF & fund for tenant reimbursement.

Happy #BOAFriday, except to the members of the St. Louis BOA who will vote in favor of the #BOAbb83 sales tax rebate for the tenant at #3942Laclede in the supposedly blighted #CortexTIF

Someone needs to remove BB83 from the consent calendar to enable debate.
SLDC skipped #HUDZ 😡
Details in quoted 🧵
Why should alders #VoteNOonBB83 on Dec. 12?

1. The truth about how the "incentive" deal works was not disclosed to the HUDZ Committee.
SLDC incentive staff didn't show up!

2. Zero sales tax revenue goes to city coffers.
Allocation:
50% captured by #CortexTIF
50% reimbursement to CI Inc ($1 M max)
Board Bill 83 is on today’s BOA agenda (“perfection consent”).

#BOAbb83 diverts half the sales tax revenue to reimburse new tenant at renovated Carriage House.
The second half of sales tax revenue is captured by the #CortexTIF

Not a dime in sales tax will be go to City coffers.

Also of note. LRA may be moving on from its recent bizarre policy to not sell vacant lots under 4,000 sq. ft. for development. An offer from a homebuilder for this standard-sized lot (3,200 sq. ft.) in Tiffany was rejected a couple years ago under the policy. But an offer was accepted today.
