Also, technological and ideological change usually requires the older generation to errr permanently retire, if we see an entrenchment then we limit the possibility for technological innovation to respond.

Related to the gerontocracy problem: it occurred to me the other day that another issue with v low birth rates is it makes civilisation so much more fragile.

I really don't know what to do about a situation where a plurality of the group that (rightly!) takes up most government spending thinks that it is unrepresented in politics.

It's really important to understand that anyone who says we should be like the UAE fundamentally hates every principle western society has held or attempted to uphold since the French Revolution.
