What bothers me is that it reinforces this idea that libs must treat all Trump voters as Very Special: that we have to pretend their dumb resentments are valid, that they can’t take a joke, and they have zero capacity for introspection. Completely infantilizing.
This take suffers from the same thing as all discourse about Trump voters: an inability to distinguish swing voters from Trump’s base. You should welcome the swing voters, people who were worried about inflation or whatever, but the chuds? The best you can do is bullying them into staying home.

There is something about hearing the phrase “raise the salience” that I find deeply repulsive and almost sociopathic in the context of discussing fascist goon squads terrorizing kids.
This is definitely a good way to raise the salience of immigration relative to the health care fight that congressional democrats are trying to center politics on.
And that in turn is definitely helpful to Pritzker's presidential ambitions.
