I've been reading in public all my life purely for the pleasure of reading and long before The Independent existed... they can fuck off with this kind of pearl-clutching, mocking, attempt to make me feel bad about it.

New NBER report is quietly devastating about the impact of Brexit on the UK economy.
We need to cut away the drag anchor of Brexit.
We need to rejoin the EU!

The fact that the BBC has made serious culpable errors does not negate the point that there is a real and concerted right-wing media campaign to destroy it. Both points can be true at the same time and the campaign would not end even if the errors did.

Look, I despise the populist far right, and I hate the attacks on the BBC by biaised media groups with an agenda, but stop giving this Panorama edit a free pass - it was a dishonest, unprofessional edit and it has given the BBC's critics a field day. The journalists concerned are undefendable.

Why are official UK bodies still on X?
Elon Musk, "These lovely small towns in England, Scotland and Ireland, they've been living their lives quietly. They're like hobbits"
"And so one day, 1,000 people show up in your village of 500 and start raping the kids"

I guess just maybe our players should get some 50 over practice or choose players that have? Because it either matters or what’s the point? 😬

But what if this is actually a brilliantly ironic skit by a superior entity about how unfunny Friends is?
AI sitcom accidentally a Lynchian fever dream. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and insane lament.

I suppose if AI is secretly planning to conquer the world, the last thing you'd expect to find is a sense of humour

Insane. All this means is more money for lawyers and, as a result, less money for things like the prison service which blundered in the first place because it is strapped for resources. Piolitical convenience, economic nonsense and the fat cats getting fatter.
Is the UK addicted to “full independent inquiries”? Does it really take a years-long process costing millions to say it was a mistake to release Hadush Kebatu on Friday? Wouldn’t a faster internal process into what went wrong allow the government to *fix* it faster?

Don't tell Private Eye but the shortlist included a CMC sub-committee member (recused), the CMC chair and a former CMC chair. 🤣 All books richly deserved their recognition so shut up at the back. With blessed relief, it's now time for 6 months non-cricket reading. Where did I put that Mick Herron?
This fascinating biography into one of English cricket's most unrestrained figures was a worthy winner of the @cricketmediauk.bsky.social Cricket Book of the Year award. Tim Wigmore's Test Cricket: A History (1/2) was runner-up in a very strong year (1/2).
