The politicians who dare to say, "Tax the rich" are the ones who will be elected.

If they live.

When governments "borrow" FROM the rich instead of taxing the rich it means they pay lots of interest TO the rich every year.

It also means government cuts back on the things it is supposed to do to make people's lives better.

Tax the rich instead of borrow from the rich.

Everyone knows:

1) The rich are getting richer and richer in a rigged system
2) Living standards for a lot of people are falling

But people don't see that #2 is BECAUSE of #1.

The increase of wealth at the top is COMING FROM the living standards of the rest. It's where people's money is going.

Fed Chair Paul Volker in 1979, “The standard of living of the average American has to decline,” he said. “I don't think you can escape that.”

And sure enough, he got the ball rolling!

"Trade" was supposed to bring benefits to everyone. Instead, powerful wealthy people took all those benefits for themselves. The rest got layoffs, busted unions, wage cuts, etc.

Functioning democracies would not have allowed that.

Now AI is about to do the same -- tenfold.

Important thread to understand implications of end of Rule of Law in the US. The Supreme Court is on the edge of that.
prchovanec.bsky.social
The next Supreme Court term is shaping up to be the most consequential since 1937. Depending on how it rules, it may cease to be accepted as a legitimate arbiter, and even nullify its own power as an independent judiciary.

ALSO Countries can tax the rich or they can "borrow" from the rich and then pay huge amounts of interest TO the rich.

The choice is always tax the rich and their corporations and do things to make regular people's lives better,

OR

Cut taxes the rich and make regular people's lives worse.

Countries where the rich (and their corporations) fund the political system choose to not tax the rich.

Everyone can set aside partisanship, psychologizing, pathologizing, whatever, and—I would hope—still see that it’s incredibly dangerous for a political leader to be this disconnected from the real conditions in the country.

It seems this is an admission of liability. Doesn't this mean they'll have to put fences between all pavement, bike lanes and traffic everywhere?

Waiting a year before a rent auction is too long. It should be 6 most at most.

Swindon has fantastic shops, but empty, boarded-up properties are holding our high streets back.

The govt’s High Street Rental Auction will empower local councils to act—auctioning long-vacant premises to let local businesses & groups rent them, revitalizing our community
The image shows boarded up shops on a high street. The text above reads “local leaders given powers to take action if landlords leave high street shops empty for 12 months”. At the bottom left it says “will stone MP, Swindon North.

Sure, but none of this is possible without hundreds of MPs and almost the entire national press screaming at the public that protestors are scum who must be stomped upon.

It's properly unconscionable that the Home Office has created this situation. It should never have been allowed to happen and once it did happen it should have been immediately reversed.

How to think about America's Constitution & democracy:

Substitute "We the People" for the word "government."

Substitute "The King and his nobles" for "the rich & their corporations.

When Republicans say "It is wrong for government to tax the rich and regulate corporations," what are they saying?
