“Uruguay did what most nations still call impossible: it built a power grid that runs almost entirely on renewables—at half the cost of fossil fuels. The physicist who led that transformation says the same playbook could work anywhere—if governments have the courage to change the rules.”

Uruguay built a power grid that runs 99% on renewables—at half the cost of fossil fuels. Here’s how its bold energy overhaul became a global model.

Throughout human history, a few assaults on science and knowledge are infamous: the burning of the Library of Alexandria, the arrest and attacks on Galileo, Soviet Lysenkoism, Nazi book burning, and now the wholesale destruction of US scientific excellence by Trump.

It looks like 2025 will end up at about 1.47°C above the 1850-1900 pre-industrial baseline, making it likely the third hottest year in the last 120,000+ years.

Meanwhile, the 3-year running average is going to end the year above 1.50°C for the first time.

🌹 In honor of Rob Reiner, who's most important work was standing against an inadequate, little man who lives in a constant state of jealousy, as he lowers the bar of humanity into the dirt, so that even he can occasionally clear it.

📌Reiner brought us a lifetime of joy, Trump only endless distress.

Eventually, the worst name you can call someone is a trump. I expect that word will be used that way for at least a century or longer.
Two babies were born in New York within a year of each other, soon after WWII.

One, Rob Reiner, lived a life of humanity and achievement. He brought us delight and joy. His memory will be a blessing.

The other, Donald Trump, will be remembered as an embarrassment to our nation.

In the past 72 hours, the President’s photo was released by Congress with a bunch of underaged redacted rape victims he assaulted and he said of the deceased in a mass shooting “things can happen.” Any other person would already be impeached and in the custody of the US Marshals Service.

The despot desires to be known as a peacemaker 🤣 FIFA panders to his insatiable ego, he renames buildings after himself.
President Trump has threatened rivals and even allies with attacks and invasions, and also commissioned a series of lethal boat strikes in the Caribbean. But he also deeply desires to be known as a peacemaker, even seeking the Nobel Peace Prize.
Trump wants to be known as a peacemaker while frequently threatening war
The president talks frequently of his desire for more peace. He also likes talking like a warmonger.
