You'll fare a lot better in terms of coping with this stuff if you just internalize that being pro-Israel has long been considered an elite litmus test and now being pro-Palestine is becoming the litmus test of the forthcoming next generation of elites. Ideological reproduction on the issue flipped.

I think it's fine to admit that. Just as there's a growing bloc of Democratic hyper-active activists or apparachikti who think Palestine is especially important, so too has there always been and remains the donor set which prioritizes the 'bipartisan consensus' on Israel.

He does have a lane considering his fundraising, Mills’ age, and Mills’ quote about appreciating Susan Collins.

Guess we’ll find out.

When President AOC federalizes the National Guard in 2029 to protect abortion clinics, Ilan is going to magically discover an English treatise written in 1610 that proves Matthew Kacsmaryk can issue a nationwide injunction against her.

oh man Gaza is actually going to decide primaries next year

43% of Democrats (52% of 18-29 voters) say foreign policy and Israel will play a role in their vote in the 2026 primaries. (81% say the economy and healthcare, of course.)

80% want to reduce support for Israel
74% want an arms embargo
72% say it's a genocide
65% want sanctions

Do Nothing and Cry Anyway Award is cross ideological btw. The ostensibly left wing people who complain about No Kings, liberals who criticize Thunberg for actually putting herself on the line for Gaza, and right wingers who complain about protesting after a political event are the same types of ppl.
diplomatofnight.com
Rule of thumb is always if they're actually out there getting the shit beat of them by government or by police then 99% of the criticism is from Do Nothing and Cry Anyway Award winners

I mean, yeah she’s hoping to get arrested by the IDF, that’s the point. Do you think the number of signatures on the petition the Selma-Montgomery marchers brought to George Wallace made a dent, or was the point to reveal what Alabama police were like to the world?

Also that there is a high chance he’s replaced by someone worse (Krishnamoorthi), or similar (Stratton).

Kelly seems the better option, but also is less likely than either of those two rn, and probably (havent followed too closely) doesnt understand the moment we’re in either.

the GOP nuking the filibuster to end this shutdown is the best case scenario

if we want a chance at fixing any of this shit we're going to have to get rid of it, better to let them do it themselves rather than worry about Fetterman pulling a Joe Manchin

Any idea if he'll be primaried in 2027? Not even talking about if its successful or if it fails, just that there would be a credible primary challenge to him?

Swing voters aren’t confused or undecided. They’re asleep
carcieri.bsky.social
They imagine a swing voter as a cross-pressured moderate who will be persuaded by whatever side seems most reasonable, when the reality is most swing voters aren’t paying attention to policy debates and only wake up for sensational controversies that cross over into mainstream discourse

This is why I really can't stand the people who think not voting somehow absolves them of moral blame, even though I recognize that a Harris administration (like literally every presidential administration) was going to be morally flawed in one way or another.

working on the newsletter and after this week it is hard not to see Shri Thanedar as a slight underdog for reelection, now that he faces a single challenger amidst an anti-incumbent environment and a unified front of progressives and the Black Detroit establishment against him

There‘s a flavor of dunk on here thats basically “Oh, you had a nonzero level of faith in society? You thought norms, laws, and basic human decency had literally any value whatsoever? You dumb motherfucker. You worthless aas,” and like… calm down and stop kicking people while they’re down.

Honestly wish there was an easy way to explain why Jeffries is the way he is to others like how easy it is to explain how Schumer is just by showing other people John Oliver’s “The Bailey’s” video. Sure thats not *everything* about why he’s not meeting the moment, but is enough for most to get.

One of the best things about Liberalism is that it freed people from the tyranny of communal and traditional rule.
beijingpalmer.bsky.social
there's a tendency in parts of the left to believe that 'community' is the answer to everything but communities are often horrendous!

I’ve definitely become more ‘trad’ in that I feel like the least bad answer to most political/social problems was figured out a while ago, getting the details right is just really really hard. like this isn’t better than a state and courts, it’s obviously worse with more potential for abuse, etc
