Frey's ability to find new lows and new ways to sell out the people he represents is the only remarkable thing about him.
When you use the phrase “the situation is not sustainable” you are giving them a phrase they will leverage for the Insurrection Act.

4 Lakota men were kidnapped by ICE in Minneapolis. 3 of them were taken to what used to be a concentration camp for Native people, and the only people talking about it are other Indigenous people. I am angry but mostly numb, I am so used to this at this point. We are always forgotten.

Important context to how enraging this is: Frey just ran a reelection campaign largely on the back of "only I can keep you safe" with the help of his chosen police chief. They have seen large annual increases to the police budget which we were told were necessary to hire good officers. 1/
this really is quite something. This is a mayor of a major U.S. city saying that he cannot do what he is legally empowered to do because he doesn’t have enough guns to do it. The thing is arresting agents of the federal government who are breaking laws.
"The question that you're basically asking is, can our cops arrest them? From a legal perspective, yes. From a practical perspective...they have bigger guns than we do." That's where we're at.
