eventually politicians need to start advocating for criminal and civil penalties for people involved in fabricating stories to get citizens incarcerated.

or, put another way: a society that would like to keep functioning has to discourage baldfaced lying, especially by authorities

At best we’ll see a similar version. Anti Blackness and the enmeshment of media and philanthropy . With no DEI standards or design autopsy of Twitter is what killed this project.

It will kill most other ones too

I was flippant about this in the original post because its dumb and I stand behind my colleague's reporting, but as I'm watching her deal with targeted harassment sent her way by Vance and by Suzanne Downing, I'm thinking about the lack of protections or support for journalists in this state.

Rep. Sarah Vance announced tonight that she’s organizing a boycott of the Homer News over their fair and accurate reporting on her Charlie Kirk memorial service. Maybe she can get our corporate overlords at Carpenter Media to remember they own newspapers in Alaska.

I hate how people are arguing with me about Biden’s culpability when he explicitly named the bill “Build Back Better” to restore “normal” and also kept saying frequently throughout the campaign that he expected Republicans to support some of his policies—deliberately undermining himself.
gothamgirlblue.com
The most telling statistic I have ever hear is that poverty decreased during the pandemic heights because we were just doing direct payments. We basically had a national UBI pilot and ditched it because Biden wanted to restore status quo ante instead of leading a 21st century New Deal transformation
socio-steve.bsky.social
At some point people need to learn that the poverty rate is mostly about the safety net or lack thereof and not the economy. The economy was doing historically well, real wages rising for the first time in decades, etc. And poverty rose because pandemic safety policies expired.

How fucking cool is this @bradlander.bsky.social and @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social at Rosh Hashanna services and EVERYONE WAS MASKING!

Kolot Chayeinu was one of the first synagogues to call for ceasefire.

“The rabbi spoke extensively about the war in Gaza, calling Israel’s campaign a genocide.”
A livestream of the services showed Mr. Mamdani, center, sitting next to Brad Lander, the city comptroller, a close ally who is Jewish. Kolot Chayeinu, via YouTube During Monday night's service, which was held at Cornerstone Baptist Church in Bedford-Stuyvesant to accommodate a larger crowd, Rabbi Sam Kates-Goldman explicitly thanked Mr. Lander, who is Jewish, and Mr. Mamdani for modeling
"interdependence" in politics. In his sermon, the rabbi spoke extensively about the war in Gaza, calling Israel's campaign there a genocide, a term Mr.
Mamdani has also used.
Afterward, Mr. Mamdani, who wore a yarmulke (optional) and a face mask (required), was mobbed by congregants before he could leave. One called him "a mensch" for staying for the full service; another said his campaign had given them hope.
A woman handed him stickers she had made with a picture of bagels and lox and a message urging Jewish voters to support Mr. Mamdani: "Reject the smear campaign — join the schmear campair »

I genuinely cannot emphasize this enough.

Law enforcement manufacturing evidence and testilying isn't novel to the Trump administration. It's not even more common. They're just worse at it so they're more easily caught doing it.

Saw someone post about how it's really fucked up that we all have to speculate about whether or not the FBI manufactured evidence to back their version of events. The thing is, you should always suspect that about law enforcement—these guys are just more clown-ish and obvious about it.

Hany was a truck driver.

He used that skill throughout his time under genocide to rescue so many people, taking them to safer areas.

He was martyred by the Israeli occupation while doing exactly that - trying to save lives.

Please help his 8 children survive without him.

He deserved so much more

In absolutely horrible news I learned this morning that Hany was killed in an air strike- he was driving people from the North to the South when it happened. This is one of the last messages he sent me 💔

He leaves behind 8 kids, he was only 48 and he was very kind.

According to them, escaping enslavement, teaching yourself to read, becoming the greatest speechifier on Earth & buying your own freedom, a set of feats that no white person has ever achieved, is DEI.
After finding employment as a laborer, Douglass began to attend abolitionist meetings and speak about his experiences. He soon gained a reputation as an orator, and was paid to speak about slavery by the Massachusetts Anti-Slavery Society. This took him on speaking tours across the North and Midwest.
Douglass's fame as an orator increased as he traveled. Still, some of his audiences suspected he had never been enslaved. In 1845, he published his first autobiography, The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, to lay those doubts to rest.
The narrative gave a clear record of names and places from his enslavement.
To avoid being captured and re-enslaved, Douglass traveled overseas. For almost two years, he gave speeches and sold copies of his narrative in England, Ireland, and Scotland. When abolitionists offered to purchase his freedom, Douglass accepted and returned home to the United States legally free. The Douglass family relocated to Rochester, New York.

2/ In 2001, Borsook said tech "libertarianism" reflected an adolescent mindset, with a craving for unchecked independence & resistance to constraint.

She warned that tech libertarians wanted an anti-human world that worked more like a computer. From "Cyberselfish," a book based on her 90s writing:
from cyberselfish by paulina borsook: It's an inability to reconcile the demands of being individual with
the demands of participating in society, which coincides beautifully
with a preference for, and glorification of, being the solo comman-
der of one's computer in lieu of any other economically viable be-
havior. Computers are so much more rule-based, controllable,
fixable, and comprehensible than any human will ever be. As many
political schools of thought do, these technolibertarians make a
philosophy out of a personality defect.

But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that
