Catastrophic flooding in BC and WA is putting thousands at risk.

We’ve always had heavy rain and floods; but as the world warms, they’re becoming more frequent and severe. And it was a UVic research team that ID'd the human fingerprint in increasing extreme precip. www.nature.com/articles/nat...

Melissa and Chris, you’re back in Vancouver after 6.5 years. What’s the first thing you’re going to do? Cycle of course!

Today we reacquainted ourselves with 19-kms of seawall cycling thanks to Mobi Bikes plus over 20k steps along some of our old favourites.

Not a bad first day if you ask us!

I've shared the full study previously but here's a more user-friendly summary of research from Montreal, busting the myth that bike lanes remove space for cars. One for our more #CarBrain infected councillors in #HaliSky via @ca.theconversation.com theconversation.com/montreals-bi...
Montréal’s bike infrastructure hardly takes up any space from cars on city roads
Bike infrastructure in Montréal takes up less than three per cent of the roadway, while car infrastructure has more than 90 per cent of roads across the city.

Becoming increasingly clear we’re gonna have to build a parallel infrastructure for all the media we really love. The reason all of this is happening under the color of law is hyperconsolidation, dissent being traded straight up for merger approval, or fear of harassment.

in general I think more people should accept that not everything in a city has to be *for you* in order to be beneficial, the whole magic of cities is that they cater to lots of different people in lots of different situations

It's great to see more of these becoming permanent!
These plazas have boosted vibrancy in our neighbourhoods, helping provide “third spaces” for residents to relax, gather and socialize. ☀️ ☕️ Looking forward to the completion of two new permanent ones - Hastings & Kamloops and Bute & Robson soon. vancouversun.com/news/local-n... #vanpoli

Cars expensive! Transit cheap!

A new study finds that high transportation costs are driven largely by owning vehicles and people who live by rapid transit have a lower cost of living.

We're absolutely shocked!

(Just kidding, we aren't surprised at all.)

The Bloor and Yonge and University bike lanes are a legitimate sanity test. Even if you oppose bike lanes, surely if a street has a SUBWAY it is sufficiently urban and you have sufficient transport options for a bike lane to be no issue. Where is a bike lane ok if not here?

Here are some birds—three different ones, all the same species: Lincoln’s sparrow, which I’ve never seen before! But they were all over this bog on the Cape Breton Highlands plateau. One of them had a bug and followed me for a bit, maybe wondering if I would like to share 🪶
