This IMO gets at a big problem: there isn't a lot of proven, elite coaching talent in woso due to the lack of resources. The pool is shallow, and it's going to take a long time & focused effort to expand.
Until then, inexperienced folks or questionable CVs from broso are going to get gigs.

This IMO gets at a big problem: there isn't a lot of proven, elite coaching talent in woso due to the lack of resources. The pool is shallow, and it's going to take a long time & focused effort to expand.

Call this what it is: this is the NWSL's version of the NBA Supermax rule. It's not a Designated Player rule by any stretch. It's highly contingent on criteria that is 1000% subjective and reliant on European media to actually pay attention to the league, which they have proven not to do.

Flying home from Rio in 2014 I was in the greatest mood. Kept telling myself how great it will be to have that experience again. In some ways I'm glad I was not thinking about the corruption that would follow so as not to damper my mood then.

The fanfest on Copacabana in Rio was a top tier experience in 2014. It was the global gathering, Brazilians 🇧🇷 and Argentinians 🇦🇷 and others from every corner of the globe partying together, celebrating OUR game. 2018, 2022 & 2026 are not celebrations of our game, it’s now just a capitalistic farce.
FIFA World Cup fan fests have always been free, but not for 2026. Yet another way this World Cup is set up to exploit football fans.
