The past few years I’ve been practicing with Joy as a form of resistance as part of my faith practice. It helps. Having fun carries us through difficult times so it tracks that my favorite chants at the #NoKings March in Portland were: “Rib-bit, Rib-bit, Rib-bit” and “No War, Just Weird.”

In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.
Not a shitpost: #NoKings is feel-good performative activism for comfortable mostly upper and upper middle class white folks and that’s good, actually. Millions of people in the streets protesting a fascist regime is good. It is good for the normie baseline to be massive displays of public dissent.

You can’t see me but you can see my bike. There were so many people there that we stretched from the East Bank Esplanade across the Steel Bridge and to the Waterfront Park and beyond without a break in the crowd. #nokings #aft

I agree with this. Portland isn’t war ravaged. The president continues to be the Divider in Chief and distracting us from what his administration is doing to this country, ravaging it while they do who knows what with the Epstein files and whatever else they don’t want us to know about.
There is an increase of federal agents in Portland. We did not ask for this. We do not need this. And we certainly will not be divided by this. We stand united in our values and reject this egregious abuse of power.

Interesting that Trump would announce he's sending troops to Portland with authorization for "Full Force" days before the nation's top military brass have been called to Quantico. A test to see who will oppose unlawful orders? Strikes on Venezuelan boats have already met resistance....

Very disappointing but not unexpected that Trump made no mention of the murders of MN Speaker of the House Emerita, Melissa Hortman, her husband Mark & their dog were murdered by a Trump supporter. He also shot Dem State Senator,
John Hoffman & his wife. Haven’t heard about Kirk’s killer yet.
President Trump: "For years those on the radical left have compared wonderful Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world's worst mass murders and criminals. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism that we're seeing in our country and it must stop right now."

We need a big change. This is a prime example of why I have zero trust in the DNC
The annoying spam texts destroying the Democratic brand:

$678M raised through those spam tactics

$282M to one consulting firm: Mothership Strategies.

$11M to actual campaigns (1.6%)

The party isn’t just treating donors like marks—it’s being fleeced itself yet continues to back Mothership.

How a single consulting firm extracted $282 million from a network of spam PACs while delivering just $11 million to actual campaigns.

A couple of years ago one Sunday morning I made this version of #Guernica after seeing it in Patti Smith’s stories. Lately I’ve been thinking of this image and I wonder which way the scale of humanity is tipping. I am reminded that the antidote for rage and a feeling of helplessness is action. #art

Where can I take out my rage over all of the bullshit and horror happening in the US and the world, especially in Palestine? What action would have the most immediate impact?

I feel like this bit of information deserves more attention. Wyden and his staff came across transactions from Epstein’s banks (as I understand it) that were dinged “Suspicious Activity Report” through his work as a ranking member on the Finance Committee. cc @hcrichardson.bsky.social
"Epstein clearly had access to enormous financing to operate his sex trafficking network, and the details on how he got the cash to pay for it are sitting in a Treasury Department filing cabinet." https://trib.al/ZTn3IyO

fwiw, i don’t personally think that either doomerism OR toxic positivity is what this moment calls for; i think what we actually need to be collectively looking towards is a secret third thing (hopepunk)

it’s cool and important to give a shit, and to look for ways to help each other.

My parent Union @aft-oregon.org gave me and others the opportunity to lobby our legislators on behalf of this bill and others. It was a valuable an experience to lobby my own personal legislators. I’m sorry that the bill didn’t pass.

House Bill 3435 would have required all 197 school districts to provide breakfast and lunch at no cost to their students, also known as universal school meals. It was one of three key initiatives tackling hunger in this year’s session that didn’t pass.
Oregon lawmakers didn’t approve school meals bills. Now federal nutrition cuts loom
Advocates worry about the effect on people who are hungry. State lawmakers say they didn’t have the money to do more.

I doubt there is an American alive who hasn’t had to either navigate cancer themselves or know someone who has.
Donald Trump cut funding for cancer research by 31% in the first three months of his term.

This is an attack on every American family who has loved someone with cancer.
